Need a PS4 sadly for FFXIV streaming, and it's almost entirely down to hardware sadly.
Currently the PS3 version of FFXIV barely functions smoothly at times without crashing let alone trying to get the extra power needed to stream it to your PSP or PSVita stably.

It's not a connection issue for streaming.

Streaming requires a ton of processing power and memory to record, compress and transmit the data to your PSvita.
The PS3 doesn't have anything allocated to support this, whereas the PS4 actually has a dedicated partition of memory and processing power specifically for streaming content. (Sharing+Remote Play)

It's a hardware limitation, not a networking one.

First you could not just download the software for the Vita, for that to work the game would have to be made for the Vita, the PS3 version would be incompatible and the Vita would never be able to run the PS4 version. The remote play feature in the PS3 is extremely limited, it would never be able to stream FFXIV.

Remote play is just streaming. So you need a PS4. That being said it works pretty well and I was playing Outlast last night on the Vita and it looked pretty crisp apart from the pixels that appear in the pure black rooms.

Wow I might get a ps4 and vita just to remote play. It will make gathering/farming and crafting much less tedious. I'll be able to watch tv while killing my 100th apkallu
