I don't know what was inside the first dev teams head when they thought they can just combine main storyline with fighter/magic class and Gatherer/Crafting class together...
Maybe they didn't have time so they just said put it together!...
I would of separated the main storyline for fighter/magic and gatherer/crafting to keep the game so you can still enjoy FF14 as having Gatherer/Crafter as MAIN class, instead of sub class... The way it's going now it looks like it's gonna go so you have to have fighting class to keep with the new main stories that may come in the future...
I dunno if it's gonna even work but just maybe... posting our ideas here about main scenario's/story for crafter/gatherer SE devs might take it into consideration (FOR FUTURE) and try to make it so who started FFXIV to play crafter/gatherer as a main class, purpose for this game can enjoy. Also gives a chance in the future where a fighting class finishes their main story, now they can try playing the crafter/gatherer class and go through a whole new set of storyline for Eorzea, and other way around for crafter/gatherer to play fighter class main story after they completed their side of the story.
If you guys have any ideas/inputs on main storyline for gatherer/crafter if you would like to post it here, or your own thread maybe SE might look at it and get ideas from it. Don't need to put fighting class storyline, SE does a good job with that from FFXI I'm sure they can make FFXIV interesting...
What do you guys think?
put FOR FUTURE on that one part since I know SE's main goal right now is remodeling, fixing the server + battle system...

My Example:
Here's my idea for crafter/gatherer. - Uldah version.
Story runs alongside with the fighter/mage storyline we have but like in opening scene first thing you have to do instead of fighting the mob in the very beginning.
1. Talk to the NPC's around to save them escape from the monster going crazy; pick up some materials on the street (gathering tutorial); and fix the gate so the door opens to escape the npc (crafter tutorial); One of the NPC you saved asks you to come to the adventurer guild later.
2. At adventure guild you learn more about the city and told to go to each guild to get familiar with the area; on one event they tell you you have to help the city workers repair and to obtain items from X spot outside of the map with NPC (tutorial to use map/compass)
While obtaining the item you obtain mysterious object which leads to other stories in the game which runs along side with fighter/mage story like you built something that helps the fighter/mage story. You know you built it but if you're playing Fighter/mage and never played gatherer/crafter you wouldn't of known you built that stuff in the back.
Something like that... would of interested me, you're the person that helped he fighter/mage class get through their story, or the other way around, fighter/mage cleared the area for you so you have a safe passage through the dungeon to collect items or explore...
