Seriously, it doesn't bother anyone that the poll is split right down the middle?

i believe alot of the complaints about the current system have alot to do with people using a controller and not having correct information on how to set them up. there are still button commands i do not know how to do using it. i found a few people in the last thread that did not know the button to open your emote menu did multiple things including toggle aoe off and on, stacking spells in battle regimen, and opening the emote window.
i was more looking at why people wanted the change and why people wanted it. i've seen a few that voted for the change and their only reason was they didn't have to check to see if it was aoe or not because the icon is not showing all the time. that would be an easy fix to show that instead of removing the system.
my vote was to keep it the same as it is, but i cannot vote on my own thread. i just feel that a few tweaks would work better than completely removing it. i don't like change for the sake of change moves. i don't see any benefits to this. i would love to see it stay with a few revisions on it.
1. have the aoe toggle show on your bar for the mage. a green circle icon on your bar that is greyed out for aoe off and one that is lit there when it is on. that would be a simple fix and a constant visual reminder so you can always see if aoe is off or on.
2. i'd like to see the bar do like when you use spiritbind it cuts half your mp it takes to cast a spell. let it show on your bar while casting. if you are in aoe on mode you can see the cost as normal, but if aoe is off you can visually see they cost less to use in your bar.
to me a few simple fixes would be the easiest way to fix the problems people have with the issue. it's also why i chose to keep the system as is. to me it's just easier for the devs to make a few fixes inside a system than it is to make all new icons for each spell and hurt mages in the long run later.

that brings out another discussion on party roles. I personally think a mage should either heal or DD, not both. That's why I want option 1.Reason: More heals to take up my action bar? No thanks. I hate it when I am the only caster in the party it means I have to cure, and can't DD. I could do both, but I'd be out of mana very quickly in a long drawn out fight.
I read somehwere that they were supposed to implement this but it got taken of the to do list. I don't know where, but wish I did.
Option 2, although I would consider the Option 1.5 route as well, seeing as how the *aga stuff is more Final Fantasy-ish overall. And we really don't need to have multiple copies of spells to cram into our bar otherwise.
I really, really don't get what people's issue is with the AOE toggle in and of itself though. If all you have to play with is a mouse, and you are completely incapable of using a keyboard, I guess I could kinda see how it might be a little difficult... but ... really people.
I play with a controller, and the toggle with the controller button works just fine, thank you very much. Ranked Conjurer to 50 using a controller since about rank 10, and had no issues.
I have some issues with AOE in general, but that has more to do with the fact that there is almost never a good reason for doing so if you're not healing, except in very select circumstances. At least not if you want SP, anyway. Has absolutely nothing to do with the toggle button though.
Another point of clarification.
I think the toggle prompt should be removed. As it is now, it's an extra button press while casting and I can see it might screw up your rhythm. I think toggle functionality should stay in.
The post Renta links to hits the nail on the head. Here's what I, as a pro-toggler, want:I still stand by my earlier suggestion. Also, for those who are adamantly against anything that makes the game easier, put in a menu option to completely disable toggles, to remove the overlay, and to make it all a matter of guesswork once again.
- "Z" will always toggle at any time, not just mid-targeting
- A visual icon indicating whether AoE or ST
- A visual overlay of what the area of effect actually is, such as a wireframe or glowbox plus secondary arrows indicating who will be hit.
I do find it troubling that the poll is split down the middle. It's disappointing that, despite all the alternatives provided, S-E has chosen to rob Peter to pay Paul.
My name is a killing word.
(Seriously: "Caerith" was a forbidden name when I signed up on the forums.)
Eorzea should be a world, not a lobby.
There are better things for the Dev Team to do than mess with this.. It works fine and is one of the few features that isn't buggy.. Don't fix what isnt broken.. Atleast dont fix it right now..
Actually now that I think about it.... These polls wont really work unless they are duplicated in each language forum :/
