Non party Fate healing help - targeting issues I think

I have finally got my filters the way I want them for doing level 40ish dungeons, so I'm afraid to mess with them further - however, I like running Fates while waiting for ques and I often TRY to heal someone nearby. Since I'm not in a party I struggle trying to target them - I end up targeting NPC green targets, pets, chocobos, enemies not in the Fate all before the toon standing right next to me that needs health (I do get it eventually but only after mashing buttons). I must have one of my filters locked or unlocked, can anyone suggest something that might help - preferably a simple way that won't alter my current setup too much? Sorry if this is too noobish, just trying to keep folks in the fates.

PS3? Try unlocking from targets, then put away your weapon before scrolling targets. I get that issue when try'n to target a player while in combat... Not sure it will work tho.

Your auto-filter might be getting in the way. If you have the filter option enabled that makes it so you swap targeting filters when your weapon is drawn or sheathed, it will overwrite your current filter.

If that is not the case just set aside a specific filter for Players only.
