Just how I rank the FF titles

I think FFX is a wonderful game, I just couldn't connect with the story or characters at all.

Though... the art style is hideous and the linearity are flaws I think.

Final Fantasy Tactics. I liked the characters, story, and gameplay, and felt like it was amazing through and through.

As for the main series, top 5 would probably be:

1. FF12
2. FF6
3. FF9
4. FF4 (including After Years)
5. FF5

12 is my favourite because of the story. It didn't have some special snowflake super-person character. There were no funky ties to the end-boss and it felt like it was a band of adventurers that could have been anyone just doing the right thing to save the world. Totally underrated Final Fantasy.

X-2 had one of my favourite combat systems of them all. The dynamic ATB in that was phenominal, it's just a shame they had to tie it to Charlie's Angels.

6 would have ranked higher for me if it weren't for the fact that a number of the characters for me were entirely forgettable. It was still a great game but the characterization for some people just had feeling like I was reading a Wheel of Time book; when do I get back to the characters I like?

5 had the best job system in my mind. The flexibility and nuance you got where wonderful and it wasn't as broken as many of the latter games (7 and 8, I'm looking at you!).

Now what about 13 and 13-2? They are okay. I'm just surprised that they keep making 13 series but I assume that is a case because of FF 15 development. 13 story was alright, not that bad but what is issue that make me think it is okay game unlike best ff games? No open world until late game, no job system and odd style switching in battles. Same goes for 13-2 but it had kinda open world little later at beginning.

Now 13-3 lightning returns is what I most looking forward because of open world and job system. So yeah I'm curious how job system will work out for single character. No spoils please, I love surprises.

It surprises me how much everyone ignores the storyline. It goes on because of the storyline, What you are playing out, is infact, only a very small side effect of the actual story.

Play them. Play them right now! In all seriousness you should give them a go when you can as they're all great.

Back on topic, FFVII will always be my favourite simply because it introduced me to the series.

FF8 is the best for me. I loved the storyline, cinematic and the plethoric list of object to create. And the triple triad...
FF10for the blitzball.
But above that, Xenogears was the best rpg ever made IMO.

With out a doubt... my favorite Final Fantasy would have to be Final Fantasy XI. Although I place it well above any other, and not because it's an MMO either. I would have played XI as long as I did even if it had been an offline FF. The story, the music, the characters, all of it all together, was the most amazing story I ever played through.

Now on to the regular list:

• Top is FFX/X-2 Collectively together.
  I loved the entire storyline, I loved everything about it and seeing as these were my first FF's into the series, it's hard not to also let the nostalgia creep up and overtake me...
• FFIX Everything about this makes a close second for me.
  I loved it so much! It was such an amazing story, the music, OMG the music, plus it has my favorite villain of all time in it, Kuja!!! If I had to be a villain it would probably be him lol (that or Shantotto on a bad day HAHAHA!)
• FFIV This one is so good, and such a classic.
  Just an amazing story, but what did it for me is Rydia and everything about her and her story. Everything about the summoners (if you couldn't tell already, all my faves are Summoner oriented somehow story lines hahaha...) Music was good for its age too. Would've been nice to discover it when it first come out, but I greatly appreciate it still here and now.

Honorable mentions go out to FFXII! Loved it! One of the most solid and great story lines to play through, and FFIII!

I've just started Tactics. Never played it before. In fact, never played any strategy game like that before, so it's a bit alien to me.

That said, my favorites are VI, VII & IX.

VI has a great story, great characters, and the balls to have the bad guy win.

VII was my first FF, and still holds up. Another great story, great villain, and the balls to kill off one of the heroes mid-game.

IX is just a fantastic, back to basics FF game. I think I appreciated it so much more when I replayed it later in life after I'd gone back and played some of the earlier FFs that I'd previously missed.
