Favorite final fantasy game and why?

though i've enjoyed every final fantasy game in it's own way, my favorites would probably have to be 9 and 6, with 9 edging in for the top. but 10 was also very good i think, and 7 as well, though it seems overdone a bit at this point. but truth be told, there isn't a final fantasy title i haven't enjoyed at least to some degree!

Final Fantasy VIII, it gets a lot of hate but Damn if Squall was not a friggin boss, not a pussyfoot soldier like Cloud who stole someone else idenity. No way, Squall rose form the ranks and lead army. I also enjoy the Eyes on me music, the SHEER production value that went into FF8, if yo saw the dancing carnival scene you know what I'm talking about. I love the card system, drawing from enemies to increase your strenght , in ff8 it truly did not matter what level you character was the enemies are just as tough as you, then of course there the treasure hunt and other stuff. Also the Gardens and the SECOND story of Laguna was awesome. Heck I believe FF8 was so well love by the creator the he said in an interview he recycled Squall and Rinoa into Tidus and Yuna.

Oh and of course, GUN FRIGGING BLADE! It wasn't obnoxiously large like Squall, it was quite utilitarian.

It surprises me how much everyone ignores the storyline. It goes on because of the storyline, What you are playing out, is infact, only a very small side effect of the actual story.

Yeah 13 ending should have ended there. Everyone turned in crystal is what it all about for 13. Then boom! Part two with time travel. Who came up with that?

Another main reason why I played final fantasy is job system. Limited or unlimited job system is what make final fantasy all about.

Well then, might I suggest you give Final Fantasy V a try. It has an AWESOME job system with huge amounts of customization and crossover skills. And it's got a lot of memorable story moments and some pretty cool music as well.

My favorite, though, is Final Fantasy VI. The characters, the scope of the story, the graphics (which were, when it came out, extremely impressive), the music (I still listen to the soundtrack at work occasionally), the fact that the two main protagonists were girls, Terra for the first half, Celes for the second, was a big plus for a teenaged girl who was sick to death of playing male characters to save the dimwitted damsels in distress. To this day, it's still my absolute favorite video game, even with it's crappy, dumbed down translation, and 16-bit graphics and sound.

I started with FFVI, but my favorite, gameplay-wise, so far in this series is FFXIII-1. It was the first one to have a combat system that really wowed me as the game progressed, growing evenly in challenge and getting quite difficult if you tried to complete all the missions. Story and characters-wise, I think my favorite was FFVIII; it had romance, high adventure, a hilariously mopey lead and loveable side characters, and on top of that it was the first game in the series to go for a more "realistic" look which I appreciate to this day.

Because they left it WIIIIIIDE open even with everyone in crystal state. Things started and *nothing* ended. Killing the final boss in FF13 would only slightly delay what's really going on. I'm not sure how much you paid attention to the story, so I won't say anything specific.

Lightning Returns is set to close a large number of those loopholes from what I gather, but I've been avoiding videos and talks of the gameplay, I want to experience myself. I never find anyone else interested in the story to actually talk about it though. Guess I find out how it all goes, it'll be at home waiting for me when I get home from work tomorrow.

9 was my first when I was immature and 13. I always have a soft spot for it but I am going to have to say 8 is my favourite. I always go back to it.

Worst thing is I have never completed it. Everytime I go to, something happens.
I lost the game.
My Playstation will break.
I lost the memory card.

I got to the last boss my first time playing and the game broke. >
At the moment I am playing 8 on PSP. I am on Disc 4 at Ultemecia's Castle. The thing is, history tried to repeat itself when the PSP I started playing it on bricked. I ended up waiting months to get a new one so will continue playing until I am finished then I will play 9.

I might be the only person to say this and mean it, but FFVIII is probably the best RPG I've ever played. I have a real affinity for time-travel and time-travel related story lines. I remember that game blowing my mind.
