Question about Teleporting and being tempted (primals)

Ok so I was doing the Amaljaa reputation quest, and the following question came to mine, If only primals can temp (completely) how does the brainwashing take affect (or is it something else) and with that the Amaljaa kidnap people in an attempt to temp them how come they can't just teleport out. My free Company came up with the idea that only certain people can attune themselves, and if that is true what type of people? Is this the reason all "classes and jobs" have mp? and in the terms of npc's are they just s.o.l.?

There is a dev post about this around somewhere in the lore forums but basically using an aetheryte requires "anima" or a sort of spiritual endurance which most people don't have enough to use the aetherytes frequently or at all. In 1.0 we used anima and not gil to teleport, and only so much regenerated each (earth) day. The gil used now is actually to pay for the reconstruction of the aetheryte network after it was destroyed by the calamity. Adventures (or perhaps just you as the main character) just have a exceptional amount of anima is all.

Edit: here is the dev post http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...An-aether-what

It's just my speculation here, so take what you will, but my idea is that despite being the quickest and most efficent form of transport in Eorzea, there are times or situations where teleporting is either not possible or would be undesirable to do so - I hate to bring FFXI up in this but there was a quest line in FFXI where the player had to smuggle items via the airship for a smuggling ring - it was specifically mentioned in the dialogue that the player could not teleport as to do so would destroy the items being smuggled.

Hence, this idea seems to also ring true in FFXIV - notice how most people being captured for tempering are merchants? (Other than Immortal Flames soldiers). If teleportation is the quickest means of transport, why do merchants still insist on traveling by foot with pack chocobos? Maybe teleportation is damaging to goods and hence have to be transported in more mundane ways - airship travel is already stated as being heavily restricted after the Calamity due to the real risk of flights being attacked by Garlean fighters so airship flights are deliberately limited, so the only other way for merchants to travel by land is by foot.

Therefore, it's not surprising then that the expensive aetheryte network is mostly used by adventurers who usually aren't carrying rare and precious items that can be damaged by teleportation but have to be in a certain place as quickly as possible. Or maybe I'm just overthinking things.

We also cannot teleport or return while we are aggroed. So in the process of being tempered (being held captive), I'd say you are aggroed the whole time?

You can...I do it all the time...

I think you can get interrupted, so sometimes it fails.

Return and Teleport are both literally spells as mentioned when you get them.
And you know how getting hurt sometimes/always cancels your spell? Yeah, that's the case.

Well, there could be a number of factors that lead to the lack of teleportation.

-Any intelligent kidnappers know to take away the means by which their prey can escape. Maybe the beastmen have ways of draining anima?
-Teleport and Return are spells. It could be these people don't know them.
-Aetherial anomalies caused by the presence of a primal interfering with those spells (can't teleport in The Bowl of Embers)
-They are taken to areas so remote that they cannot muster the anima to cover the distance needed to travel.
-They don't have The Echo (seriously, I'm just going to start putting this in every single one of my speculation posts...it answers way too many questions to not be relevant at least somehow)
-The beastmen only prey on those they know have lower anima counts (they can detect it or sense it)
-Constant spell interrupts (someone mentioned above)
-It makes too good a story not to have someone to save (no real reason/it was overlooked for plot reasons).

Thank you I think that answer my questions ^^

Edit: actually I'm still interested in how the tempting process happens (when not used by a primal) if anyone knows

It's tempering, not tempting. And I'm fairly certain the way beastmen temper people is they just bring them to the primal.
