Leveling my own alt character I have been seeing this kind of stuff happen a lot more. Yesterday in Hakkue Manor our whm decided to only be in clerics stance and use fluid aura (knock back) as much as he could because "he was bored with healing and had to make it more fun" He claims to have only been leveling his whm for cross class, which I dont doubt, but he was a dick and the tank was about ready to punch him.

What pisses me off even more is if you try to say something, something to help them improve how they play that class, even when you say it in the nicest way possible they flip out on you, tell you that you dont know what you are talking about, or dont tell me how to play. Yeah fine its your 15$ a month, I get that. But when you make my dungeons hell because you refuse to just fate grind your alt job up, then yes I have a pretty big problem with it.

To be honest, as someone who screwed up a lot to learn how to tank, I have to put it here:

It's actually quite easy to level up and never learn the job. I certainly didn't learn how to properly use scholar by "afk healing" every dungeon to 50 because the fairy can solo heal everything, and spamming succor on fates. It's also worth mentioning that once you focus on a single role, it is a bit harder to try another role. I was sure as hell surprised when I found out the infamous "DPS tunnel vision" wasn't just an excuse for bad dps failing to avoid stuff; I actually legitimately focused so much on the "rotation" and my mana that I barely looked at the screen when learning BLM, and got hit by a lot of stupid stuff until I got used to it. This never happened while healing because I'm always having to pay attention to everything, and I have no rotation to worry about.

Also, as a legacy player, I have all battle classes to 50 since arr day 1. I started learning how to PLD with it fully decked in Moogle sword and full DL, so, again, it's very possible that some of the "bad alts" you're finding, specially on DF, are legacy players trying a new job on ARR. If I ever plan to MNK / DRG, be ready to meet the worst best geared melee DPS you've ever seen on duty finder.

Not everyone out there is lying to you, OP.

This is part of the reason why I only work on tank with members of my FC. Unfortunately all I've been able to practice is the first three dungeons. I've been toying with the idea of starting a group in party finder that's like "bring your alt classes and we'll learn to use them."

Real talk: If you are leveling a job just for a cross class skill, THEN JUST STAY IN FATE PARTIES! Don't go into a dungeon when you make up 25% of a party and your lack of knowledge will be completely obvious. If you do that, you deserve all of the clowning and shaming that you get.

The thing is, even when people are willing to learn, listen to advice and try new things, they still need to practice all those things in a real setting before they can really improve. Now i'll agree there are places that are better suited than others to learn (Turn 4 is not on my list). But if you encounter people learning to play secondary classes in the easy dungeons (WP and AK) or in the HM primal fights for relics, be patient with them and offer to teach. Most will welcome it if you don't start by saying 'Hey d*ckw*pe, if you don't want to suck so much @ss, you should...' Chances are the person making the mistakes is aware of the problem and already feels terrible about it.

Another thing you can do, when the run is over, is to stay behind with the person in question and talk the run through and offer some pointers without a timer hanging over your heads.

I disagree, If there is a steep leveling curve, players will optimize the hell out of their classes in order to clear that curve as quickly as possible.

The problem in this game is that FATES are awful as far as any for of strategy goes. There is no need to do anything except spam whatever isn't on cooldown.

IMO Fates should give gil/seals/gear but no XP or such a low amount of XP its not worth using to level a class.

I level my alt classes for achievements and nothing more. I read the skills and figure out basic rotations and I'll accept advice when I get it, but if you expect me to spend an hour reading an in-depth guide on how to min-max a class I don't particularly enjoy playing and will probably never touch again - lolno. I certainly won't be going into any end-game content as an alt-class unless it's with friends.

I see more bad players on their "mains" than I do on alts.

My worst experiences have been "alt healers". I leveled a tank and once in a while got a good healer... but I stopped playing it and went back to my healer because I was tired of terrible healers.

I had healers with full mps that literally stood there doing nothing while I died as a tank. No casting. No CDs. Nothing. I wasn't even spiking dead or getting hit by mechanics... just melee death.

I can check what my new skill does while in battle and the only negative is missing 1 attack in the time it takes to bring up menu, go to actions, highlight it, read it, spam cancel button until back into battle. You have ZERO excuse for being so freakin' "insert bannable comment here."
