I just want to say a couple things before I ask:

-This is not a thread to say FFXIV should be like FFXI
-This is not a thread to bash FFXIV or FFXI
-This is not a thread to hate on people for their gaming preferences, or whatever they enjoy
-This is not a thread to discuss difficulty and/or fight about the two games

Given that, I am going to start playing FFXI again, and I was wondering if anyone wanted to play with me in their spare time. I really just want to beat all the expansions (including the most recent) and have fun playing the game again. The only reason I ask here is that there are many XI veterans who play XIV now, and I thought i'd surely be able to find a few people to make a static with. FFXI is a great game, and it deserves to be played again just for the story line alone (Never even beat WoTG!). I will play both XIV and XI, but I thought it would be fun to have a group for both.

I enjoyed XI. I was just telling my daughter that I actually liked it better than this game. I told her I like ffxiv too, but XI had a lot of cool stuff and elements of the game I liked. She asked me what I liked about ffxiv lol...I said the graphics lol couldn't think of anything else haha. Total blank. I told her no one really plays XI anymore since it is over 10 years old and everyone moved to the next gen games. I'd play it again, but not gonna pay for 2 games and this one has SOOO much potential. While it's not my fav of the 2, it is the one I'm committed too now.

Sorry, not me. The newest expansion for FFXI ruined it for me. It took everything I enjoyed about FFXI and tossed it out the window for a boring as hell item level grind that is even more repetitive and soul-crushing that the one in XIV, and utterly invalidated every single other thing in the game that came before it. I tried to keep up with it for a while, but I just couldn't get into it, then a massive amount of players started quitting, making it even harder to get anything done and it just isn't a fun game anymore. If you want to give it a try, go ahead, but for me, I think my FFXI days are done. I'll always remember the fun I had with it before Abyssea and Adoulin, but I can live without the crapfest they turned it into.

I've played and enjoyed FFXI for close to a decade, but the changes brought forth by the latest expansion completely ruined it for me.
Within a single update all the content they had carefully preserved, tweaked and updated over the years was made completely irrelevant and it got replaced by something that was fun and challenging at start but later on became no more than a grind of the same thing over and over.

I look at the FFXI forums once in a while to see if anything new has been added that's worth my time and attention but the only reason I would go back there is for nostalgic reasons.
Which in the end will likely leave me disappointed and asking myself why I resubscribed.

I would try the FFXI forums for finding people to play with. Anyway you can't finish the story of the newest expansion yet because all the missions aren't out yet. It's still in its early phases.

What FFXI is doing now is they pretty much are going back and redoing all their old fights for the 99+ cap. You do old bcnms retuned for 99+ to upgrade your old AF1 into 109 gear then you do 99 ark angle fights to get 119 AF1 gear. Along with delve and skermish and wildkeeper reives for some other side grades. Also much of the new content drops items to upgrade your relic/mythic/emperian weapon to ilvl 119.

New ffxi is a lot bigger grind to get your gear to ilvl 119, its a lot more work considering a lot of these fights require you to have 20 of the new seals and to 119 stuff you need 20 merits per fight and everyone has to have this. Thus makes it harder to gear up more then 1 job however people who like grinding can do it gear up a lot of jobs since there are no lockouts in FFXI its just a big grind. If you have many jobs you want to gear in FFXI you will never run out of stuff to do. In comparison abyssea was a lot easier to get top tier gear then it is now. Personally I think abyssea was the right amount of grind for gear. The current gear grind in Seekers is much longer.

I'll keep checking back on this. I've been tempted to check out XI once again, since I never reached the 75 cap before quitting. I'm curious to see how much the game has changed and, now that I'm older, I'm curious to see how much my rose tinted nostalgia glasses actually made me over look.

I'm already playing FFXI and still playing FFXIV to cap out weekly myths, I'm on Bismarck with some buds and planning on beating the expansions, soloing has becoming really friendly there, as you can party with 3 NPCs, known as Alter-ego and you earn solo exp, to the Shantotto fans, you can now have her in your party and grind alongside her, its worth checking FFXI out again, while they slowly update FFXIV.

I'm starting a new character soon with a sub. Watching Mr. Happy go back and replay the game on youtube has gotten me excited to check out Vana'diel
