I've said for a long, long time now; I'd subscribe and play for years to ffxi IF a server was made with the old rules, old loot system, old hnm pop system, old leveling system, and everyone on said server was level 1.

You know, a basic roll back to the release of the game, stagger out expansions on the same schedule over the next decade. Yeah, it's hard core and not for everyone, but I'd sign up in a heartbeat for that!

I've been subscribed to FFXI since the original Japanese release, quit playing back on October 30th, 2010, resubscribed August 2013 (same month ARR came out), and didn't touch it till the beginning of this month, lol.

I have to say though, I don't have the last Abyssea mini expansion or the most recent expansion, but I've been playing the crap out of it for the past 9 days on Asura.

The Trust system is absolutely amazing and completely necessary to deal with low population numbers. The best part is that the AI of the Trust system realizes when it should and should not do something and when another element of the Trust, say a tank, needs to get hate, it scales back till the tank has hate (AI tank or yourself).

Unfortunately, with Trust it doesn't allow real players to party with you if you have even one trust character summoned, making party play not worth it at all. You still need to rest to recover HP and MP as well, while Trust NPCs regenerate both in between fights at a rapid pace (well, compared to your own while resting).

While Trust is completely necessary, they really should take out the party restrictions at this point, because as it stands now, the community simply does not communicate with one another like they used to back when we were forced to party together. The world feels completely empty, even with 1500 players on Asura at prime time. =(

It's kinda cool job. To boot, it's the only job that has highest rating on GS & parry, both A+. And I capped it all. ^^

It also makes old content kinda amusing. Remember campaign battle in crystal war era (Wing of the Goddess content)? This is now that happened:



Those beastmen hit like a baby to me. So easy tanking them all, used to be impossible to do more than 3-4 beastmen. lol

Anyways, I have resubbed about several weeks ago, precisely a week before last login campaign ended, just to nab that limited time only: Lion's cipher for Trust. ^^

Currently I'm working on my PLD. Capped it, only left with skilling and maybe start working for my Ochain.

The games population is too low and they killed off the soul of the game. I would consider it only if they remove the last expansion and all abysea and rolled the servers back to 75 cap, obviously not going to happen.

There is no way they would revert the game back to 2008, they had to make new content for people who still pay for the game, the game basically has gone through 3 eras now post 75 cap. Abyssea era (99 cap), Voidwatch/Neo salvage+nyzul Era (99+ era sidegrades to abyssea gear but generally better.), and now the Seekers (ivl 119 era).

I don't get why people think they should make 0 new content if they did that the game would die for sure. Because people want stuff to do in the game they pay for.

You would like FFXI now basically they going back and redoing all the old content for the level 99 cap. Reusing all the old fights, IE all the bcnm, all the ark angel fights, a lot of the old mission fights. Only thing is now they drop ilvl 109 or 119 gear, the number of items you need to upgrade your gear depends on if you did limbus or not and +1 your old gear if you did limbus or go back and do it now then you need to farm less papers from the bcnm. Access to fights is pretty grindy everyone in your party needs 20 merits to enter and there is 5 selectable difficulty levels for everything. You can play as much as you want but gearing out all your jobs takes quite a long time due to the fact you have to keep getting 20 merits everytime you want to do a fight.

If anything there is too many people because of the 3 instance per server limitation. There is still like 1300 people per server whenever I log on the game. If more then 3 groups are trying to do a bc fight be prepared to spam the bc to see who gets in first for over an hour. While some things are still a ??? and theres only 1 spawn if some guy is taking 30 min to try and solo whatever you be waiting, behemoth is pretty horrible for this because defending ring is still good.

For whatever reason for the last couple of patches the new expansion zones kind of been on pause as they went through and redid the rest of the old game for lv99+, they still in the process, they letting up upgrade dyansmis gear next, and abyssea gear last but that hasn't been announced. But the thing is everything takes 20 merits to get into the fight now which is too much for your average player.

Only thing that would be a deterrent to old players coming back is new gear is pretty expensive to upgrade. It costs about 80m to get your relic weapon up to ilvl 119 the current item level cap. Your AF 119 af gear will cost you about 5m per piece once you get the required drops from the BCNM and Ark Angel fights. There is an expensive 5m crafted item that is needed for all your 119 AF that takes a 106-110 crafter to make, could be cheaper if you have the craft or know someone but you can only have 1 craft in 11. Looking at about 25m in crafted mats per job to go along once you got your papers.

They wouldn't have to roll back all of the servers really, just provide a new server with none of the add-ons enabled. First gen EverQuest has actually done this to great success.


However, I personally wouldn't play a vanilla version of FFXI (I remember those days to well....), because it lacked so many features that should have been in the game from day-1. When they did get around to adding the "low level" features, it was three expansions and 6 years after release...

Hate to break it to you but everyone can be considered throwing away their lives depending on how you look at it. Unless you do something to change the world your only going to be another piece of the puzzle in the grand scheme of things. You will eventually grow old and die. How you choose to spend your life is your decision. If you think having children and a family is important that is your choice but as the current state of the world is heading towards eventually over population I would say it's not like we need everyone having babies for fear of the human race dieing out.

Is your argument that the vast majority of people who most of which will live mediocre lives are better wasted elsewhere? Please do share what people should be doing with their time.
