    Can't Complete Version Check

As I've seen, many people are having this problem.
    ---------------------------
    FFXIV Boot Error
    ---------------------------
    Unable to complete version check.
    [30605][20448][10009][10019]
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

    So first thing is first.

    I have done:
    1. Checked for Quick Knowledge and SavingBull, didn't have either installed.
    2. Reinstalled FF14, but can't even download the game since I get the same error.

Anyone have any more information regarding this? My game was working fine days ago, and I have Windows 7, so it can't be that new windows 8 update. Pretty disappointing since I just re-upped my sub.

Go to your FFXIV_BOOT.cfg file. By default, it's installed in:

    [User]/Documents/my games/Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn/

What's in that file? Could you copy & paste?

Your B4EulaAgreement might be the issue; try changing it to 1, so your file will now look like this:

<FINAL FANTASY XIV Boot Config File>

    <Version>
    Version 2
    Language 1
    Region 2
    EulaAgreement 1
    StartupCompleted 1
    B4EulaAgreement 1
    BootVersionCheckMode 0
    ConfigReset 0

Nothing has changed, the same error still pops up.

I also tried changing the region, which did nothing.

Alright, then my next recommendation would be making sure that you can even connect to their servers after flushing your DNS. If you don't know how to flush your DNS:

Open a command prompt by clicking the Windows button -> search "cmd" -> open the program that pops up -> type "ipconfig/flushdns" (without the quotes).

From there, still in the command prompt, try to ping the data centers:

    NA: 184.107.107.176
    JP: 202.67.53.202
    EU: 209.130.141.243

If you can't ping any of those, then that means there's an issue with your connection and not your computer.

Edit: And in case you don't know how to ping, all you need to do is simply type ping [IP] in the command prompt. So for example, to ping the NA data center, you would type: ping 184.107.107.176

I was able to ping all 3 of the servers.

Those are web servers... not even connected to the game. Here's a few DNS names that are hard-coded into the executable, with the IP's they should resolve. See if you can get to them by name:

    frontier.ffxiv.com (124.150.157.190)
    patch-gamever.ffxiv.com (124.150.157.126)
    neolobby02.ffxiv.com (199.91.189.74)

The 124 IP's are servers in Japan, the 199 is a lobby server in Canada.

If basic routing is good, than it may be an issue with your files. Many have reported a mismatch in the version check files. Navigate to this folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\game

Open the ffxivgame.bck and ffxivgame.ver in a text editor to see if they have version numbers in them. If they match, then your patch files could have become corrupted. You can find/remove the downloads in here (insert your systems user account name at <USERNAME>):
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\downloads\ffxivpatch

Im having the same issue and tried every method possible so far, though I hadn't heard of that one, I checked my game folder and apparently I only had the ffxivgame.ver file but not the ffxivgame.bck, I guess this could be an issue in updating the client?..also I was able to ping every server without issues.

I had no problem pinging all 3 of those servers ,and deleting the patch files didn't change anything.
