It is a little dated, end of October, but this is the latest census data we have for servers. Someone actually logged in to Lodestone and checked for all the characters Lv.10 and higher to do this though. This was prepared and released around the time server transfers were made available. I can't say when someone will do another census.

Well the last stats I saw...about 1.5 million copies have sold. So if even a fourth of the people are still playing ...that would be roughly be 375 thousand worldwide.
My guess its a bit less than that.
I see tons of abandoned or unused accounts in the lodestone : /

Well, if I may give my input here - I'm sure a good number of people who are "inactive" are in the same position as me. That is, a college student with sporadic free time (if any). I was in the beta and played for two months after its release before classes caught up with me and I had to put the game down for a bit. So the inactive accounts may be permanently inactive from players who were fed up with some part of the game for their own reasons or people merely on a hiatus.

Just offering a guestimate as to the current population ^^

Besides the difficulty of determining how many of those are still active, it looks like that census is counting characters rather than players. While this game doesn't provide the incentive to create multiple alts that a lot of games do, there are still quite a few of us who have multiple characters. (I, for instance, have three of them, Y'kayah Tia, Dylise Fieltaire, and Navarre Greave.)
