You Know What Really Needs to be Brought in From FFxi? [Suggestion]

Forget about HNMs, side-grade gear, or party zones. What we really need from FFxi is the ability to block junk tells from RMTs. Please make it happen.

We had blacklist in FFxi as well, still received a spam filter.

The problem with that suggestion is that it doesn't allow you to receive tells from people wishing to to join parties, Free Company, Link Shell, or friends list.

Okay, before I go any further I want to officially complain the forums mechanics here really suck Square. Please fix it!

I, too, played FFxi for a really lengthy time. It's been a while now but there was an option to "Block /tells deemed as spam", which was followed by one to block shouts, and followed by RMTs working their way around it.

Also, what we really need is some Dark Knights dps.

Delete the oldest names because they have already been banned and if by chance you delete some that haven't been banned, ban them again.

I had to go through my black list because I was 200/200. I deleted 100 of the names and as far as I know they truly are gone. I have however been blacklisting new rmt that send me tells or spam in cities. Still no where near cap yet though, but when I get there I'll repeat the process of deleting 100 names.

That is really all we can do at this point until SE increases the Black List size.

It's still a solution? If people are in positions where they would need to privately talk to someone who wants to potentially join a linkshell or free company or party they are running or an officer of, they can just uncheck the box for the amount of time needed to do whatever they need. And anyone who isn't in those positions can go about their game freely without getting a single RMT spam message.

It's a better solution than just blocking every RMTer AFTER they pm you and then having to clear your blacklist every couple weeks or so.

Uh, we did? I played from NA launch til roughly late 2008. If that spam filter had been there the whole time I A) Never noticed it and B) Never knew about it. So I can't exactly even comment on what that means. If someone spammed I blacklisted them. Though we really didn't see RMT spam like you do in all of these "modern" MMOs, you still did see RMT, just not in the abundance that you see them promoting in XIV.

I played FFXI up to the day of the last expansion I can tell you there was no such filter just less advertising but I still received random ones.

I wish they would do more about it. It's so friggen annoying. I get spam tells in under a min after logging in or returning from a dungeon group. Blinggggggggg blingggggggggg. I'm so sick of it.

I think RMT must only really be concentrating on specific servers now because I haven't had a RMT hassle me with spam in months on Ridill - but then I do also have shouts and yells filtered out so that cuts down a lot of spam (only leaving tell spam). But the thing is, the servers that players are on who are still having issues with RMT spam all seem to be new servers, and mostly from the US server group. That seems to be an indication that RMT are now mostly concentrating on what they must perceive as a more lucrative market (that is, 'newbie' servers), thus ignoring Legacy servers mostly whom they must think we all have saved up millions of gil already from 1.0 (which we don't).

As for the FFXI spam filter, that worked well for a while, until RMT discovered work-arounds for it, which they then seized on (apparently the filter worked by filtering common words the RMT would use in their spam tells, like website addresses. Hence they soon were able to renew their spamming by simply doing things like putting wrong letters in web addresses, then stating to the recipient to change the 'wrong' letter. That sort of thing is actually very difficult for SE to stop really, which is probably why a similar filter hasn't been added for ARR - it just doesn't work as well as people think it should.

Also the FFXI filter took years to implement - it wasn't added til about 2009 if I remember rightly.
