Burn the healer. Is there another way?

I've been playing a little of the pvp lately and it seems like there is only one reoccurng strategy. Kill the healer, it's the first and last statement made before the gate opens and then, with few exceptions, within moments like wolves on a gimped deer the team is burning them down while ignoring the other team doing exact same thing. So, that being said is there ANY other strategy out there that could at the least offer some change in pace?

Play with a Black Mage. You end up having a lot more options.

You can:
Sleep the healer twice (resleep after his purify), burn a ranged DPS
Sleep the healer once, bait the purify, then stun/holmgang him to death
Sleep the healer twice, "BURN THE MNK OH GOD I CANT CAST KILL IT WITH FIRE"

Third options my favorite.

playing against a blm you gotta kinda focus them or you'll be sleeping the entire match

A lot of strategies work... it depends on the healer you're up against. Some healers are terrible and can be burned quickly, in which case the opposing team has no source of raise. That's why it's so common.

But against an above-average healer who can kite for quite some top until running out of cooldowns or being outwitted, it's smarter to have Tank and possible 1 DPS on the healer while another DPS goes on their most threatening person.

In recent matches with people I know are good pvpers, it's not uncommon that we kill the healer last. Force them to kite nonstop while picking off the DPS, and then burst them down before they can raise.

tbh and i know this sound bad...but i typically ignored the "kill the healer" remark in pvp, unless said healer is near death. why? simply because the healer isnt the only main threat on the field. i cant tell you how many times i seen players ignore the smn, blm or brd cuz it isnt the healer. if the healer is crap, then sure kill him/her first;however, it just in my experience, any smart healer will just bait you to attack him/her all while their team smash your face in.

Going straight for the healer in a 4v4 premade or even 3v3 premade (if both teams are half decent) will almost never work.

Always set your Range DPS and Tank on Healer and let your Melee on their Range DPS. Kill priority is Range DPS if a BLM is available, if not its double pressure till one drops. Assuming you have a decent melee who can pressure.

Not always. If you can get the healer slept, you can burn anyone that is weak. I personally *LOVE* killing tanks. Especially if they have blood for blood. Most won't expect it, and the healer will be LOS while their tank is getting burned down. Kill priority, if we can sleep the healer is as follows:

1. SMN /BLM
2. Tank (Due to the pressure they cause my healer)
3. Melee DPS
4. Healer

If we have no sleeper on our team:

1. Ranged DPS
2. Healer

i have been solo killing healers for a long time, but this applies to the i lvl 90 pvp healers that are actually good.

MRD should be capable of killing any Healer of the same Rank Gear. Failing to do so meant you are not playing optimal at all. But as of current'y Range DPS will always have the highest threat level and higher chance of dropping compared to a Tank cause they have more dependable and stronger defensive CD.

So, I'm gonna assume this is a personal attack against me. I never said I *couldn't* kill healers in similar gear. I just hit rank 30 this week. Tell me, what should i have done to beat Healers with better gear than me, when i was not a rank 30? I used my team mates, and their abilities to get the job done. If that meant sleeping a higher ranked, higher geared healer, and then killing off his/ her whole team, then thats what was done. As of now, no healers are getting away.

Even still, my response was to the OP as well as yours. No, you don't have to always burn the healer first. And there are other ways to play besides: Tank on healer etc...

I personally like to have fun as well as win. And for me, there are times when killing someone other than the healer first is more fun.
