    Agreed. While still a very nice piece of music, Hobbiton-esque music is Hobbiton-esque, and Gridania doesn't quite sound like Gridania anymore as a result. The nightime version seems like a compromise of sorts but "Born of the Boughs" just captures the spirit more. It just sounds more "magical". It's hard to describe.

    edit: A word that does come to mind is "humble"...the whole situation with "outsiders" and "the Hedge" and the overall secrecy of the place and their customs seem to have been cast aside (for the most part). It doesn't seem to even be a "thing" anymore. The original music just seemed to fit that air of mystery much better.

    I like the music for both versions.

    But, Soken and his team when they produced the sounds and music for ARR wanted to do what Uematsu didn't in the original which was to use instruments that suited the zone, each area has a instruments you'd consider "native" to an area of that style, which makes sense. Uematsu sadly didnt have much to go on in his defence, a few pieces of artwork and some descriptions to make an entire OST was a bit much to ask.


    But the BATTLE themes, oh god no. There's plenty of chance to mix things up, but using the same melody arranged for each individual zone has made me get to the point where I mute it.

    Gridania music in 1.0 IMHO, the entire sound suits it better than ARR, with the triangle-sounding instrument and all. Gridania is more quaint, it did not need to sound quite so epic, renaissance or not. Both songs are great, but the original just has a more magical feel. =)

    Gridania at night, it's the same tempo as 1.0 and I swear they were trying to replicate the original in some fashion

    A lot of the original battle music felt like it didn't suit the game's atmosphere. They sound fine on their own but I rather not listen to electric guitars playing all the time. That's not to say I prefer the current one either, since it's used everywhere with slight variations. It would be nice to get some variety depending on what zone you're in. The same could be said for dungeons.

    I wish there was an option to use 1.0 music or something along those lines. I never played 1.0 but my goodness that battle music makes me wanna battle monsters all day.

    I think that'd make a better boss theme, a 30 riff buildup is too long for normal enemies.
