    You could do something like that in 1.0, but now all the files are zipped up in only a handful of dat files in 2.0 so I'm sure it would take a lot more then just a little amature fiddling to get different music. I really liked cids them in 1.0 and made it my limsa theme. Was really nice, and gave the area better atmosphere for me. I never seen any mods get bent out of shape over music swapping. I haven't came across any method for 2.0 sadly.

    Anyhow I know it was brought up before about how all the battle music is the same thing. I honestly forgot what they said, but it was pretty much hey this is how we are going to do things. Idk if its a budget situation or what, but I really wish they would give separate tracks for different areas.

    (yes thats a 2, this is a running gag since FFXI)

    I can't remember if the Music near Bronze lake at old maids mill was in 1.0 But man I love this calm tune, I can semiafk for hours just listening to it so lovely. (Mhaura FFXI theme had a similar effect on me)

    I'm familiar(about 10 yrs or so), but unfortunately its nearly as old as using "zoom out" these day. Anyhow I'm sure there's some way to get to the music. I also recall a dev comment that we may be able to get some kind of a juke box or something to change the music around. I don't know when i saw that, but I think it was possibly something they said "hey, its possible via user made add-ons" or something. Idk though. I wish I kept a record of all of the "important" dev comments we've gotten over the past.

    I miss A LOT of 1.0 soundtracks. Especially how much longer the tracks played.

    Sometimes, I like to hear the ambient sounds but not as much
    as we have to hear them now lol. I don't mind the tracks we have now.
    Wish a lot of them played longer.

    I do - I also miss how the Guildleve theme remixed in some of the area's theme music into it.

    Coerthas 1.0 zone music > everything.

    I really miss the old zone + track. For me it was the perfect song for the best zone in the game. Those green mountains, the clear blue sky with the sound of wolves holwing from that track were just perfect for me.

    Give it back to me S-E, give it baaaaaaack!!!!!

    I miss all the 1.0 music. Emerald Labyrinth, On Windy Meadow... especially Unspoken. In fact, I miss that track so much, and so much blah over the Gothic crap in Coerthas now that any time I'm out in the zone, I just turn off the BGM and fire up Unspoken on repeat instead.

    I have to say the music in Gridania in 2.0 bothers me the most though. It feels like Lord of the Rings meets Final Fantasy. Too much Hobbiton sounding.

    Agreed. While still a very nice piece of music, Hobbiton-esque music is Hobbiton-esque, and Gridania doesn't quite sound like Gridania anymore as a result. The nightime version seems like a compromise of sorts but "Born of the Boughs" just captures the spirit more. It just sounds more "magical". It's hard to describe.

    edit: A word that does come to mind is "humble"...the whole situation with "outsiders" and "the Hedge" and the overall secrecy of the place and their customs seem to have been cast aside (for the most part). It doesn't seem to even be a "thing" anymore. The original music just seemed to fit that air of mystery much better.

    I like the music for both versions.

    But, Soken and his team when they produced the sounds and music for ARR wanted to do what Uematsu didn't in the original which was to use instruments that suited the zone, each area has a instruments you'd consider "native" to an area of that style, which makes sense. Uematsu sadly didnt have much to go on in his defence, a few pieces of artwork and some descriptions to make an entire OST was a bit much to ask.


    But the BATTLE themes, oh god no. There's plenty of chance to mix things up, but using the same melody arranged for each individual zone has made me get to the point where I mute it.
