What this game is severely lacking is a reason to adventure in the open world. the game is nothing but fate grinding and instances. FFXI had a million reasons to explore the open world.
Now to close this... I'm not a hater... I'm a lover and that's why I'm still here. I hope this game holds incredible success because the end of SE would mark the death of a life long friend. Simple truth... the game is on the decline and SOME (not all) of what the haters are saying holds value. SE should do the best they can to create a fun and enjoyable environment for a large global fan base. "I love everything about this game" does not help it grow. Constructive criticism does!
I don't know why people who get to end game complain about lack of things to do..I swear this forum is full of stupid people.
Not only is this game actually good, it's literally the only good game Square Enix has produced internally since...like, Final Fantasy 12. That was 7 years ago.
ARR is only financially successful game in 7 years from Square Enix that people actually like.
So yeah, unlike the Final Fantasy 13 Trainwreck Trilogy, this game probably is getting subscribers and attention through positive word of mouth.
FF13 being bad is an opinion not a fact. Not only is this game actually good, it's literally the only good game Square Enix has produced internally since...like, Final Fantasy 12. That was 7 years ago.

The first Final Fantasy 13 game broke franchise record sales. Mainly because:
1) It was the first multiplatform Final Fantasy title, and
2) People had no reason to believe it was going to be terrible. FFX and FFXII were universally well-recieved.
The second sold significantly worse than the first, and Lighting Returns had the lowest opening sales of any Final Fantasy title.
This is because after 2 mediocre games everyone knew what to expect. (Me included -- i got a PS3 and FFXIII on the day of its release. I preordered FFXIII-2. I'm so fed up with the FFXIII series that for the first time in my life, i'm just not going to buy XIII-3.)
I'd argue that the XIII trilogy is a MUCH bigger insult to Final Fantasy than XIV 1.0...At least they fixed this game. With XIII Square is just desperately trying to manufacture another "Cloud" to cashgrab off of by shoving Lightning down our throats, and it simply isn't working.

FFXIII was successful financially initially simply because it was a new FF game for the PS3, the first on that console, and one that had been overhyped for years beforehand - so naturally there was that zealous demand for it regardless of how it was actually turned out.
Even so, it was a critical failure, which is why FFXIII-2 at least tried to fix those issues that the first XIII had (Lightning took a back seat in the game in favour of her sister, the battle system was much improved, as in, none of that 'game over if the party leader dies' nonsense, the player had freedom where they went and how they played via the clever time-travel function, there was replay value even after completing the game with the paradox endings etc etc.) - even though the game was clearly made in a rush and still had a lot of flaws, it was still fun.
But yeah, I think most FF fans are just sick of Lightning now - I know I sure am.
