Those figures are not in first months they are years. Ie FFVII that figure was from 1997-2010 "As of May 2010, it had sold 10 million copies worldwide" If you gonna show figures show the first year figures for other FF games then compare. Might still be higher but don't try comparing sale figures that took years to hit when game hasn't even hit a year.Only 1.5 Millions ps3/pc combinated sales? i was hoping 4 - 5 millions as minimum is a Final Fantasy game.
Final Fantasy VII (10 million, includes Final Fantasy VII International)
Final Fantasy VIII (8.15 million till 31 march 2003)
Final Fantasy X (8.05 million)
Final Fantasy XIII (6.71 million, Includes ps3&360 versions)
Final Fantasy XII (5.6 million approximately: 2.4 million in Japan, 1.7 million in US, 1.1 million in Europe; 5.2 million shipped)
Final Fantasy IX (2.86 million in Japan; 5.08 million shipped)
After the Low Sales in FFXI, i was thinking Square enix learned Something in 10 years of experiencie. But It seems square enix lacks of knowledge in the MMRPG department.
1.5 Millions is a Great number for a "Average random MMRPG in the market". But For a Final Fantasy Game the sales are low
This is old news, year ending dec 2013, 1.5 MILLIONS sale and if we assume an average $10 profit per copy that's 15 millions and the swing between last year and this year is about 10 millions usd, so all it telling us is that ffxiv sold well at it relaunch and nothing much about their subscription base which is what they needed for ffxiv to be consider success too early to say either way.
*So agree Artemed.*The thing is when WoW started out they took elements from other MMOs of the time and improved upon them, they smoothed out the gaming experience to me more casual friendly and increase accessibility to more people, this game doesn't do that. It pretty much takes things other mmos have done and just gives them a new coat of paint and even then in some situations it makes them worse....
Additionally and MOST IMPORTANTLY - the p-r, the buzz, everything about WoW that was put out prior to release was ALL ABOUT changing the genre, making it "more accessible". Players who bought WoW, knew going in that one of the overarching goals of the company and devs was to "make their mmo more accessible" as well as to include challenges for those players who preferred it.
Thats why so many feel disappointed. Is it going to make me cry myself to sleep at night? Naw. Lots of other entertainment to choose from. Just really thought this re-re-release was going to be a good mix of what worked with the first one combined with new implementation and fresh creativity.
Past tense.
...and from the Gridania forest mysts proceed the souls of warriors and heroes; among which I am honored to serve as part of the One.
Most sales are within few months of release...Those figures are not in first months they are years. Ie FFVII that figure was from 1997-2010 "As of May 2010, it had sold 10 million copies worldwide" If you gonna show figures show the first year figures for other FF games then compare. Well not if you look at sales for FFVII they did about 3/4 mill in first few months. Not everyone is stupid enough to buy the game when it is at max price. A lot do wait till price drops.
and company gets scraps instead of profit... late sales doesn't really matter much. Just pocket change here and there.
And lets not forget that ARR wasn't even 60$(PS3 - 40$, PC - 25$) at launch like FF13, heck even FF7 was more expensive.

I think sales from SE will skyrocket once more when FFXV hits the stores. That game really does look amazing, and it certainly a must-buy for any FF fan. At any rate, it's great to see SE are back on top, and doubly so that FFXIV is largely to thank for it. They did an amazing job turning the game into something more playable, and with the upcoming expansion I expect it'll go from strength to strength.
Of course, if you really wanted to treat your consumers SE you could put some Lalafell plushies in your online store![]()
The new PS4 trailer (this thread) says "1.8 million adventurers worldwide". I'm guessing that's accumulated accounts, currently subscribed or not. New people are still starting the game, some are unsubbing of course.
Short login queues are still common on Balmung at least, during prime time and weekends. Character creation restrictions are still in place during prime time on about 3 worlds from each data center. SE said their big maintenance last month was to allow for more servers for Steam and PS4. Those new platforms will surely bring a wave or two of new players. We know SE were thinking longer term than 5 years, and we're barely halfway through the first year.
So here's some hater for ya. Let's take a closer look at the article:
The company profited at the time they were selling the box / digital download itself along with a large 2.1 marketing program... 7.8b yen.
The companies projected annual profit ending in March 2014 is... 6b yen.
Why would they project 1.8 billion less; only 3 months later with the launch of patch 2.2 and PS4 release? This is a profit decline of 23.1%
Numbers sound good but that's the wrong direction.
Now to close this... I'm not a hater... I'm a lover and that's why I'm still here. I hope this game holds incredible success because the end of SE would mark the death of a life long friend. Simple truth... the game is on the decline and SOME (not all) of what the haters are saying holds value. SE should do the best they can to create a fun and enjoyable environment for a large global fan base. "I love everything about this game" does not help it grow. Constructive criticism does!
