Echo buff in Coil farms will be problematic because...

There will be a *mandatory* wipe in every fight to get the buff. If the echo buff stacks, you may be wiping several times to gain this buff. Expect to see people advertise this "strat" in party finder...

Sure, you may say, why would people do that for the easier fights? The answer is the same reason you can on monday look in Party Finder to see nothing but turn 2 "enrage strat" groups. The reason is if there is an easier way, people will do it.

People can do what they want. Like I said, I expect people to do this in pugs, maybe even fc groups as well to just save time. Before you say, "Just don't do that, or just don't join those groups", I will be doing it as well. I mean, why not? I guess the reason I bring it up is that, from a Final Fantasy standpoint, why would you pointlessly kill yourself from a lore standpoint?

What do you all think? Is killing yourself for fun in theme with the franchise?
I anticipate someone saying: "They should just make it automatic!" or "Are you just too lazy to wipe a few times?" Maybe but, I guess mostly I'm just pointing out the mechanic to which you get the buff is a bit of a downer is all. I personally would be happy with no buff, but I'm sure it will get implemented as it's probably want the majority want.

When the Echo buff was designed for 2.0, it was intended, I believe, to ease people with the main storyline as well as the class/job quests. So, if you could beat it the first time, you simply did. If you could not, you were sure to get it on repeat attempts. You didn't just throw the fight right away cause obviously you weren't going to farm the encounters over and over after you beat it. There is the difference.

If you can only get this buff after wiping...and everybody just abandons the fight after the first wipe...is there really a buff...?

    LOL

    That's how it is now!

After the patch, every wipe is like +20% damage +20% health? You'd be silly to leave.

WoW has the same kind of buff in their LFR. I don't think I ever saw people specifically trying for this though they would be thankful after a few wipes that it existed.

I think we need to wait and see before worrying.

This is why I think there should be a droprate penalty if you accept the echo buff.

Sure, you can progress the story by dumbing down the fight, but if the chest then has a 50% chance at dark matter instead of gear, will it really be the best option?

I dunno maybe there can be a way to make it so people can't abuse the buff. Why would you wanna die in purpose anyways just for a buff? Just let it happen naturally, it'd be pointless to abuse it. Its probably not even going to be a large buff right?

Since you said CT was a stepping stone, kinda it drops ilvl 80 gear, ct isn't that hard I think its doable in ivly70 or less, so thats like a 70 challenge rating. Coil should be like an 80 challenge rating so.. a 10% increase would be enough I think. Heck even 20% but I think much more is kind of giving it away

Keep ind mind though there are people that aren't downing it. T4 and T5 can be kinda rough.

Statement: The buff will apply only the first time the content is cleared, not subsequent 'farming' runs. For all those looking for an Easy Mode farm of Allagan weapons, tough luck.

    No quote?

And how do you account for mixed parties, the newbies get the buff, the rest dont?

Did you read that somewhere? That would turn my point on it's ear if it was true.

But regarding Allagan weapons, won't Leviathan EX weapons be better anyway... AND farmable?

I remember them talking about this echo buff way back before launch, but I don't recall ever actually seeing it in game. But after all these months of playing and experiencing the kind of content this game has, I honestly think the concept is terrible. Giving us a training wheels buff for failing repeatedly is not even in the ballpark of a good idea. If there are serious issues with clearing a boss fight, they should re-evaluate the design of the fight. Let's be honest, a lot of these end-game fights would become a LOT easier if we could simply dodge AOEs reliably.
