They already have their own servers to work on before they publish changes. Not to mention the enormous amount of feedback / bug reports they're getting now helps shape the game into (hopefully) something everyone can enjoy. Sure, taking the game down would mean no more forum stupidity, but it'd also mean zero game feedback and bug reports -- a valuable resource they're getting for free.
No ones arguing agaisnt an extended beta, you're focusing too much on in-game development over their many internal issues.

Which DO hold this game back.
