    Cute/Unique things to wear?

I noticed that mostly everyone is wearing just about the same thing. Having played MMOs for many years, I've come to understand that in many games you only have so much armor for your class, and it's not necessarily good looking, even the higher levels. However, the few I have played as of recent allow dyeing, fusing to costumes, costume overlays, etc... I did see that there is dyeing, but is there anything else to help spice it up a bit?

There is a 'glamour' system planned for the future where you can change one piece of gear's appearance to another, but it's unclear at this stage when it's going to be added (apparently it will be in the 2.2 patch next month but nothing is confirmed right now).

Until then though, all you can really do is mix and match pieces of equipment to find a outfit you like (a lot of people call this their 'vanity' set) - special event costumes are useful for this, like the maid/chef's outfit currently available with the Valentine's Day event.

Oh, I hope it's next month, that would be great! I may have missed it, but I don't believe you get extra stats for wearing complete sets? Or maybe you do for higher level armor?

Higher level, yes. Full sets, not really. The only item sets that count as sets for bonuses in this gamer are GC equipment.

The Glamour system is gonna be in the next major patch, that is certain.

What is not yet known is how this system will work, exactly.

I hope it's treated as simply this:

Add a "Glamours" tab to the character window. This tab will have a side by side view of both what the character is currently equipped with (on the right), and what gear is equipped as glamours on the left. It would be nice if there were weapon skins (perhaps craftable by the appropriate crafting class), as well as minor stat increases from the designated vanity gear (nothing too extreme, of course).

No gear combining, no gear sacrifices, just a system to show/hide what you've wearing versus what you're equipping, not unlike the already-present ability to show/hide any head gear.

They just need to look at LOTRO wardrobe and replicate that

The only other MMO I ever played was DC Universe Online and that one got it right when it comes to outfits & gear. I hope it's something like their's. On DCUO, you could also change the color of the same piece of outfit on more than a single section & mutliple colors, too. That would help a lot because I hate being only to change a single portion and have a crappy color on the rest, like the brown sections on most of the Tanks outfits you get along the way.

I'd prefer a cosmetic slots type of system like LOTRO and several other games have, where you equip one set of items to your regular equipment slots and can equip different items to your cosmetic slots. You'd get the stats of whatever is in your regular equipment slots, but the appearance of whatever is in your cosmetic slots. (And then there are multiple outfits of cosmetic slots, sort of like the gear sets we have here, so you can switch out an entire outfit at once.)

But last I heard, Square Enix was planning instead on a melding type of system where you combine two items to produce an item with the stats of one and the appearance of the other, then you just equip that new item. I'm not sure of the details of that (like what happens with the original items — do you still keep both of them so you can also combine them with other things?) and I don't even know if it's still their plan. I'm hoping we'll get some more details soon as to what exactly it is that they're implementing.

Uh oh! I hope it isn't melding two items, because I'm pretty sure you will lose both and have to re-attain the cosmetic item again to attach it to a higher level item. From what Niwashi says about LOTRO, it looks like it is similar to DC Universe. They have 2 pages, one for cosmetic & one for leveled gear. I am really hoping for this option.
