    New Crafter - Confused!

So my ARM is 42...I'm going to leve my way up to 50 in the next few days.

My intention is to actually make armor, some for spirit bonding, but also to be able to make the new stuff in 2.2 for my Tank and other FC mates.

What other DoH classes do I NEED to level up in order to allow me to have a reasonable success rate in being an ARM? I'm not a big crafter, but I am willing to spend some time to be an ARM. I have no interest in any of the other crafts at this point, and if I have to get everything to 50 in order to accomplish my goals I'll probably just stop now!

Tanks for any advice in advance!

While im not a master, I heard to atleast get every class to 15 for the cross class skills. Then try to get to level 30 if possible then leve your way up.

If your not leveling your going to need to buy mats... This is going to cost you more cash than if you make it yourself but it's usually reasonable... I personally would suggest using leather working since that's going to be most of your sides for armorer... But you can look at the recipes http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Ca...rmorer_Recipes and see what you may want to create to make things a little easier on ya... Just remember the more DOH classes you have the cheaper things are going to be to make... However it is a grind and took me a few months to complete them all...

Boy it's a long road for you to even craft the current 2-stars with reasonable success, let alone the new recipes.... You will absolutely need these skills: Byregot's Blessing from CPT 50 (biggest quality move), Hasty Touch and Steady Hands II from CUL 15 and 37 (first one gives quality for no CP but 50% chance, the other raises your success rate by 30%), Ingenuity from BSM 15 (for any star recipes), Tricks of the Trade from ALC 15 (to recover CP).
I suggest you just stop now if you have no interest in other crafts.

Get all crafting classes to 15 for the cross class skills, makes crafting so much more enjoyable because you have way more control over your crafting success. After that, it's up to you, but having them all at 50 gives you near guaranteed success at HQ'ing everytihng with NQ materials.

Thats not true... As long as he is buying hq mats he will have a really good chance of making hq items... Those things are great for normal mats but not necessary for HQ mats being used... I make all my own stuff and always hq it not using any of those skills...

Yeah I might. It looks like if I want to be a good Armorer I need

    LTW - 50
    CPT - 50
    CUL - 37
    BSM - 15
    ACL - 15

at the bare minimum to have a decent shot at doing anything mildly rewarding as a ARM. Well - it'll be a nice little goal to work towards now that I have all my battle classes more or less where I want them to be. Thanks for the responses so far, I'd still appreciate any further advice if there is anything else constructive to add.

I invested a lot of time into crafting. Here's what you really need:

    CRP 50
WVR 50 (some might tell you WVR 15 is enough, your mileage may vary)
    LTW 15
    BSM 15
    CUL 37

    LTW - 50
    CPT - 50
    CUL - 37
    BSM - 15

    Nice to have:
    ALC 50
    BSM 50
    GSM 50

I've also spent a fair bit on melding my crafting gears. If you plan to, focus on the accessories and belt first, since those are universal among all crafting classes, and so they only have to be melded once. Skills alone aren't enough if you don't have the stats to craft them reliably. You'll notice some 1-star and 2-star crafting recipes have certain craftsmanship/control requirements, which you cannot achieve without melding/food.

It's a real chore for what it's worth to be able to craft 2-star HQ, and the market for it is kinda crashing. You can use HQ mats, and so you won't need to invest as much time, but you should at least get CRP 50, CUL 37, and BSM 15 at least, if you wanna get serious into crafting. That said, don't forget skills cross-class between classes, so you only have to level CRP to 50 once, to use it for the other 7 classes as well.

I agree that your first step should be to get every craft to 15 for the cross-class skills, giving your ARM a much greater skill set. This doesn't take too long as early levels are fast and cheap and I actually found it a lot of fun doing the level 1, 5 and 10 quests for each guild when I was at your stage. Once you have those you may find that this meets your requirements.

The suggestions here for higher level skills are if you want to make 2star items or consistently HQ high level items from NQ materials - which you may or may not be bothered about. Get your 15 skills then take stock.

The best part about leveling crafts from 1-15 is that you pretty much never have to even leave the guild. All the ingreds you need for those levels are sold cheaply by the associated Guild shop (I think there might be a couple CUL recipes where you'll need to jog a couple blocks to the Fishmonger - but even there you don't ever have to leave Upper Limsa Limosa). I definitely recommend taking the trouble; the level 15 cross-class skills are quite powerful and useful.

As for what post-15 skills you'll need, I don't feel that I'm an accomplished enough crafter to give advice. What folks have been recommending here sounds good.
