Question about cross training other classes

Being a level 17 gladiator, my goal is to become a Paladin. When do you know it's time to start training the conjurer class? I know I have to get to level 15 for a conjurer and level 30 for my gladiator. If I get my gladiator to 30, and then I start training as a conjurer for 15 levels, does my gladiator stay at level 30? Sorry. This is really confusing coming from WOW and Neverwinter. And if I want to level the Lancer for some of their skills, when would I start to level a lancer?

Is there a limit on how many classes I can train? And if I do, will my Paladin ever get to the max level?

    Thank you for any help!

Train other classes whenever you want.
Yes gladiator will stay 30 if you switch to conjurer.
Base classes (gladiator, conjurer, lancer etc...) Can borrow skills from eachother, but jobs (paladin, dragoon, monk ...etc) can borrow skills from 2 classes for paladin that would be conjurer and marauder, sorry bud no lancer.
You can train all the classes.
Maxing all the classes is possible, just not with only quests so you gotta do fates and dungeons and whatnot.

So if I start training a conjurer, being a level 1, how does that effect where my level 30 gladiator is at? If I'm in a level 30 zone, what will it be like for a level 1 conjurer? I know I need to just go out and do this but being a level 17, I still haven't gotten the quest for the airship to get to the new zones.

Your classes will stay at the level that you left them, and you can go back to them whenever you want.
To get a new class you need to get it at one of the cities and you can level the class in the surrounding area which is low lvl, you can also do the hunting log of that said class, fates or levequests appropriate for that class lvl.
You can change to a lvl 1 class in a lvl 30 area without raising its lvl even though i would advise against it, since the mobs are probably going to kill you.

When you switch back to Gladiator, it will be where you left off.

You should have unlocked the airship at Lv.15. If you haven't, finish your story quest asap. The story quests are indicated by a special flame quest sign, as opposed to the circular quest sign for non-story.

Anyway, leveling another class is just like starting from Lv.1 again. You do gain one cross-class slot from the outset, and a 50% xp bonus from FATEs and killing monsters, but that's it. There's no bonus to quest xp. You can switch to your main class at any time by equipping your weapon (be sure not to discard or sell it). The biggest penalty to leveling an alt is that you will not have access to previous quests (as quests outside of the beastman dailies and leves are not repeatable).

When you switch to your level 1 conjurer, you ARE level 1 once more, not level 30. You'll need to go back to level 1 zones and level there. However, when you switch back to Gladiator you will be level 30 once more, and should do level 30 content with it. Imagine switching classes like changing to an alt in other MMOs, except you keep things like quest progress, inventory, where you are, and can use certain abilities from classes you've already leveled.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that if you started the game as a Arcanist and you want to be a Scholar you can level your Scholar as you're leveling other classes/jobs.

That question can be taken in SO many ways... so I'm going to make an assumption on what you meant.

No, your Arcanist (Because SCH's level is just Arcanist's level) does not get xp by leveling other classes just because you chose arcanist as your starting class. The only impact your starting class has is what city you start in (and thus what quests you get up until level 15 or so, basically the main story quests and the quests in the very starting zones outside of town) and, well, what class you start as.

Now, what you MAY have been thinking of is how you can gain xp on SMN, and it will gain you levels on SCH. But that's because both SCH and SMN are jobs of Arcanist, and it's only the base class that gains xp and has a level. As you gain xp as either a SMN, SCH, or ACN, they all just give xp to ACN, which determines the levels for all of them. This also works for other classes and their jobs, such as Paladin and Gladiator sharing the same xp pool and levels.
