GLD/PLD vs MRD/WAR in 30~40 tier PvP

I was curious as to how the usefulness of these classes compares in these PvP tiers, since it isn't 50 cap PvP and they don't have access to everything in their repertoire.

I don't plan on doing 50 until I can at least afford the i70 gear; along with having my i90 PvE weapons at the very least. I don't wanna be a burden to people for being undergeared in it.


So, on to the topic- I like to focus on utility support without really dealing poor damage. I was leaning more towards WAR in this respect, but I do enjoy the potential that PLD has for keeping people off teammates.

But, I started looking more at the generalized classes and less at the jobs, since I'd be able to get a new list of things some people might not expect, like Raging Strikes, Feint, etc. at the cost of job specific gains.

I'd appreciate some guidance; I enjoy playing heavy-armored classes in PvP in most games, I don't wanna jump in blind with no idea as to what I'm doing and screw over my party.

From what I've observed from a healer standpoint in the 30 and 40 brackets, the tank tends to be targeted last and often slept early on.

To the point I've contemplated if I were to play a tank in those brackets, I would reallocate toward Strength and Strength/Crit accessories.

GLA/PLD have Shield Bash on GCD, which has been a pain in the butt to endure. If I break out with Purify, I tend to Fluid Aura him so he doesn't shield bash me immediately.

MRD/WAR has Brutal Swing, but I know if I break out of it, he doesn't have anything (that I've seen) for a while to slow me down.

Haven't considered the classes standpoint for tank in 30/40 PvP yet. I may need to try it.

First of all, I'm glad you are pvping. This post is probably better suited for the pvp forum rather than this.

To answer your question: MRD/ WAR has quite a bit of damage increasing CD's that can be used, esp MRD. I personally find playing MRD to be superior, due all of the burst potential. Esp if you have the proper cross class skills.

Also, it is a good decision to start off in the lower lvl brackets until you get gear. You have a good mind set, and are being unselfish. Very good indeed. Now, just know, when you do que up for lvl 50, there are a lot of rank 30's tunning around, and you will have to step your game up further.

Thanks for the help, I guess I'll have to give both PLD and MRD a try. PLD will have to wait though, since its basically my main class at the moment, so I can't really afford to be switching builds constantly. Though MRD is a simple matter of just getting to 30/40.

And yeah- in retrospect I probably should've tossed this into the PvP forum, but at the time I was seeking specific advice and couldn't make up my mind, haha.
Both posts have given me a some insight however, MRD looks like a good place to start with all that bursting. I'll try PLD later once I cap it (I'm assuming I can still do 30~40 bracket at 50, and that it just syncs my level).
