It might be the classes will stay the same, with the jobs limiting what you may or may not select as a skillset.

Could be but they have said 1 Job per Class and as we most likely have BLM coming due to the armour we have already been shown and them saying we need roles it would be safe to assume that one class will be becoming a WHM as the dedicated healer role. As CON could easily fill the BLM role, THM would fill the WHM but THM is nothing like a WHM in it's current state.
The lore perspective won't really make that big of a difference, but if a Conjurer is about healing and mending but has no healing or mending spells, that would be ridiculous. It is SE's fault for making two mage classes with enough abilities to accommodate four mage classes easily.

It's unfortunate the first development team put the new team in this predicament.
Generally speaking, it seems difficult to imagine a realistic scenario in which these classes won't be separated into a healer and the other a nuker. The problem is, neither currently fit those roles completely. This wouldn't be a problem at all to simply design these classes from the ground up. However, Square has to realize that some players leveled CON for nuking and THM for the same reason. So whichever gets cast as the healer, there could be an angry backlash from that group of players who is now stuck with a healer rather than nuker. But I think it's an inevitably and hopefully those players can see that, for the greater good, it was a necessary evil.
Now for some speculation. I suspect CON will be the healer and THM the nuker. The lore that follows CON and the Cure spells seem to fit more closely to a healer/WHM than does THM and Sacrifice. Of course I'm overlooking the nukes and ancient magic available to CON, but for whatever reason I feel the total nuking package is easier to foist on THM and its associated story.

However I highly doubt, since they named the classes the way they did, they will take the healing spells off either of them. Conjurer gets its name because it deals with summoning the forces of nature, which encompass the damaging force of the elements and its healing force. Thaum.... I really dont know what that name means, but i've done the Thaum quests and they deal with life and death, and revolve their lives around it, so i dont see them taking their sacrificial type heal or their resurrect spell away.
So as far as redesigning the base classes, not so much. But they will be adding White Mage, who specialize in healing, and Black Mage, who specializes in damage.

I agree with your lore points. It's confusing to think of where they're going with this.If they take Thms healing spells away, I will be very very upset. I could be wrong, but I thought they mentioned specifically making the classes more specialized and role-specific to avoid the class uniqueness problem that currently exists? Would they not have to redesign the base classes for that? It seems hard to imagine tacking on WHM to one of these classes, as it exists now.
All battle classes are going to be changed skillwise from the ground up I'm pretty sure theyve said
