the reason con wont unlock blm later is because,
they want to make people have roles, and will force all jobs into these roles, while con could be a sch, they will make it blm or whm because they want dedicated healers, and they will alter the only two mage classes to the roles they want now.

really they should add blm and whm later and make like scholar and oracle, but they wont, they want pure roles now, and will alter the mages to be that, even though its probably a bad idea on a number of levels

Hmm... Well, right now there are actually 2 types of weapons for each DoM class.... 1-handed staffs and 2-handed staffs.

Perhaps WHM would be the job for a 1-handed staff Conjurer, and BLM would be for a 2-handed staff? Then THM would get 2 jobs of it's own as well.

Gladiators get knives and swords (and shields). Will gladiator get two (three) jobs?

I don't think we have enough information from official sources to really support all this speculation.

Hopefully they'll recall the title system and just let us have our jobs as stand alone levels...

I know this is not the direction they are taking it, but it should be.

Remove physical levels, Class' take this slot over and jobs take over the class slot.

You train for years to be a master of using swords (become lvl 30 GLA)
You then train at using a staff (become lvl 30 CON)

With this training in these specific areas, the DRK guild notices and welcomes you to train in this specialized form of fighting style. Then you would gain ranks in DRK and learn job specific abilities as you rank up.

At the same time, if you finished your sword training and then say decided to learn to use scepters (THM) you can be asked to join RDM faction.

This is just a rough idea, but from what we've heard from the devs so far, this seems far superior

Not sure if this has been mentioned here or anywhere else but classes won't disappear. Just because, say for example, Conjurer turns into Black Mage, doesn't mean a person can't choose to go into battle as a Conjurer. I think it actually gives quite a bit of flexibility.

if the increase in ability within a specialized combat isnt worth going Black mage, no one will do it. If content is designed around needing a person who can heal 50% better, then your build which can heal is useless.
Its essentially a way of phasing out cross classes without saying you are, basically their plan is that only soloists would benefit from cross class skills. but even that is questionable, i mean if archer gets a damage boost for being a ranger, he wont need cure to solo at all.

the biggest problem i see about unlocking jobs with the current DOM classes (i don't see many probs with DOW though) is...
    - both mage classes feel like rushed. There is no creativity. The spells we all know from ffxi. The mechanics of spells is the same.
I like ideas like pressing a button longer and unleash even bigger dmg so you can control hate AND dmg output better but have to handle longer casting times, or another fun thing i remember from age of conan, where you could idle at a spot and start "spellweaving" to improve the dmg. It was like a reaction mini-game that could even kill you if you **ed it up but it was fun . (thats just and example on how healing and nuking alike could be improved and made more fun).

The ideas of healer doin dmg on a mob and some dmg heals the party in return also makes it more fun if implemented right. There are so many ways you can improve a mage job.

The mages we see in ffxiv are the most boring mage jobs i played in all my gamers life.
And they don't even have a direction. Its like...
"hmmm we want to make 2 new classes... but we don't have time... and the creatives are on vacation... what do we do?
    - ah, let's just take a whm and a blm and mix the spells , put in some drk spells to to spice things up, man i bet this will be awesome and its not even much work for us" - and so con and thm were born....
I like mages in games but if they don't fix them and make them fun and put love in both of them there's no point for me in playing that game.
