Good content, based on FFXI's Besieged and Campaign I assume .. won't happen in FFXIV because Yoshi is fixated on FATEs and the few 'defense' FATEs that do exist show the limitation of that mechanic.

I'd like to see DoL/DoH have an actual physical impact on the world. We already kind of have that with housing as far as DoH go, but DoL are still stuck whacking at the same point ad infinitum and nothing ever happening...
If they bring back Hamlet Defense I'd definitely like to see the DoL/DoH aspects having more of an impact; you trade in equipment and NPCs gear upgrades, you trade in building materials and the defenses improve. DoL should be limited to the area around the Hamlet as well; you're mining behind the Hamlet and over time an actual mine opens up, trees get cut down, maybe this results in a new Hamlet Defense event where creatures from the mine/forest attack.

Only if you wanted the seals for the relict quests.OP glossed over the major flaw of Hamlet Defense. That being that if you did not perform within ridiculously high parameters (you had to be in the top 10 contributors, if I recall), you got nothing. Unless you also suggest that aspect be removed, all you're asking is for trouble, OP.
Everything else you got also without beeing in the top 10.
Mage Hat as example you got in every run with a golden chest at the end.
Optimal party setup for hamlet defence was 1 Tank, 2 Healers, 2 DoL and 3 DoH (with speedcraft skills).
No DD, because the NPCs did the damage. With this setup you got the most points.
Best in the point system was that it gave you extra points if the weapons/tools were broken ^^
I bought a lv 1 hatchet and broke it to use it for hamlet
