    Ban Times?

So I got banned for using a self made emote with a friend..apparently people around us couldn't handle it even though it had nothing to do with them.

Anyway, I got my account suspended but it didn't specify what the duration of the suspension is. Anyone know the actual ban time? because it only said a minimum of 24 hours...

Well if it said. 24hours. how long as it been so far?

and also your freedom to do what you like, stops at the beginning of other people's feelings.

    It said minimum..didn't say maximum.

I didn't see how the emote could hurt other peoples feelings when it wasn't even directed at them or to them in any way.
It's like walking on the street when you see two people arguing/making sexual gestures..ect. It has nothing to do with you, so just move on

I hope this is sarcasm. Anyone remember witch burnings? Kind of the same thing.

OP, Doesn't matter if you didn't find it worth reporting, someone did, and the GM agreed that you broke the rules. Some people think botting doesn't affect anyone, and shouldn't be ban worthy, but most and the gms agree it's worth a ban. If you didn't actually do anything bad, you wouldn't have gotten banned from just being reported. Learn from it, don't do it again.
I think you misunderstand the sentiments behind "reported for reporting." Few--if anyone--are actually reporting anything. They are making fun of the nanny state syndrome sweeping the nation. On top of that, most tickets sent to GMs are frivolous, including the "I'm offended, please punish that guy" tickets. So, if someone did send a complaint about a frivolous thing and it overworked the system, perhaps the system shouldn't cater to frivolous claims.

BESIDES: The game is rated Teen. It advertises many devious behaviors included by developers, but then punishes players who offend other players with their actions. I got a warning for using a /sit emote and cited as harassing, which made no sense. But, someone was offended, and SE decided to punish me to show me who's boss by using an unrelated TOU that was violated when my action was unspecified in their TOU.

Point is, world needs a hug, and governments (GMs are a form of government if you think about it) are quick to dish out. It's ridiculous, but that's how the world works. Now when I log in, all I do is stand there so as not to offend anyone.

    (That's sarcasm by the way)

Was it in any way offensive? I can't see how you got BANNED for a silly emote unless it included either racism, excessive profanity or explicit Ascii art.

I miss my old middle fingers macro I had in XI now that I think about it, rofl. Ah well. They seem to be way more sensitive about that sorta thing now though so gotta be careful what you say/do.

IMO, it wasn't offensive. The macro varied simply from kiss to punch to kill and flipping off. But due to the populations age..this is considered inappropriate, so I'm just going to have to accept this and move on.

Just wanted to know when my ban will be lifted

Flipping someone off is against the ToS that you agreed to when you signed up for the game. If you want to break them, you have to pay the price. My suggestion is that if you want to flip your friends off, do it in private where no one else has to see it. You can complain all you want about it not being offensive, but the fact of the matter is, that someone WAS offended by it, else you would not have been reported. FYI, flipping the bird is the same as saying "go F**k yourself". In case you were unaware. And the killing part isn't exactly all that appropriate either. Deserved punishment is deserved.

But that's not what I got banned for, I got banned for harassment. Wheres the harassment when it was a mutual and used as a joke to enjoy the game?
There is a world of difference between kissing someone and telling them to go f'k themselves. And yes, that behavior is considered to be harassment, not just in this game BUT FREAKING EVERYWHERE, genius. In case you were unaware, sexual gestures are considered to be sexual harassment, even if they are not directed at the person who feels harassed by them. I have fired people for less under company sexual harassment guidelines.

Sure next time if I happen to pass somebody that is supposedly "having fun" with another person and has nothing to do with me but I find offensive, I'd be sure to report them.

So long as they are making sexually explicit gestures, or something else that is offensive and against the ToS, you would be justified in doing so. Otherwise, you'd get another ban for griefing. Seriously, do I REALLY have to spell this out for you? Are you REALLY this dumb? Offensive is offensive. Period. No matter that you are just having fun with friends. If others are around, and your having fun with friends is making them at all uncomfortable, it is called harassment. Save things like offensive gestures for PRIVATE times if you don't want to be reported for them. In other news, the sky is blue, water is wet, and 1+1=2.

But if that argument sounds violent or that sexual gesture is lewd, you do have the right to call the police. And there may be laws against it so the police have the right to tell you to go home, give you a citation, or arrest you based on the circumstances.

I suggest doing inappropriate emotes somewhere secluded if you don't want a public reaction.
