Some people are not playing the same game, I'm sure this forum has more than a few griefers..People need to make a decision. Do they want an exclusive (to the point of dead) game that very little people play yet holds to their arbitrary ideas of what makes a good game (basically all the popular games aren't doing it), or do they want a game that can attract a wide audience and actually have a hope of surviving 1 year into the future.
There is something to be said for the ol "10,000,000 flies can't be wrong!" argument, yet threads like this make me think that any degree of popularity would be seen as a failure to some people.

I'm beginning to think that the answer to the OP is 'no'. Case in point; confirmation of the removal of the AOE toggle...
"Waaah auto-attack" "Waaah AoE toggle" "Waaah redesigned maps"
XIV fanboys go nuts whenever they do something actually GOOD for the game that doesn't follow the ridiculous original direction the game was going in.
How is removing the AoE toggle good for the game? It gave a shortcut to dozens of spells.
Bizarre.

Yep, I do like this game, but it does have a host of problems. The AOE toggle however, is not one of them.
Different classes/jobs should receive different abilities, including AoE spells. It shouldn't be "Oh you're a DoM of any variety? Great, here's AoE heal/AoE nuke/AoE buff/AoE debuff have fun". It makes things boring. Give conjurer AoE cure/protect/etc but only give thaum single target cure/protect/etc. There's no variety if every mage class can AoE every single spell and there's also no fun if they can go nuts with it since there's zero consequence to spamming.
I honestly don't see what the big deal is. You throw it onto your action bar/macro palette instead of clicking an extra button. Big whoop.
i think being exclusive can also mean exclusivly GOOD and special. We have a shit load of people on the planet that could be the target. And we have millions of final fantasy fans out there who can be the target, no only ffxi players and not wow players. Being good and special can also have the opposite effect and people are attracted by it more and more because its unique, special and great fun, innovative. etc. ...People need to make a decision. FFXIV isnt very creative, its not fun in most cases, it offers no challenge, the coding is crap, servers seem as well (since SE mentions it as an excuse whenever they can). And it has restrictions everywhere. A lot of active players are boters, especially crafters and gatherers... Thats why its not fun, if it was, less people would do it.
The game doesnt need to be a wow clone, not a ffxi clone to be successeful, but it lacks ideas a lot, it lacks "love", creativity, fun and intuitive smooth gameplay, a good fast ui, better, faster menus, voice acting (its not about money honestly). A lot of companies make millions over millions by being unique and special. But they do their job damn good and right. That is the great challenge SE has now. So far they did a poor and incredibly slow job. So i expect the game to be on par with other games (not meaning as a copy of wow) within another year at the earliest.
Well said. I think that's why Demon's Souls was such a hit really. It did things differently but they actually put effort into their game.i think being exclusive can also mean exclusivly GOOD and special. What the dev team really needs to do is listen but take all suggestions and complaints with a grain of salt. Take a step back and think, "Would this really make the game better?" Sometimes the community does have a good suggestion or is complaining about something that really does need to change. Unfortunately more often than not, especially here, that is not the case.
