Zorlinta, what exactly do you believe an 'official' parser would provide to a bot that the running memory doesn't already provide

An official parser would be a totally diferent matter, as it should be part of the game itself, not a third party program. But parsers as are now are kinda the same than memory dump readers.
Though mostly instead of an official parser would be more helpfull an dps/output dmg meter, or whathever other kind of measurement you need. So unless you are developing your custom meters, or making triggers, you not need a parser in the full sense of the word.

these things "WILL" get used like they are used in WoW, mainly for dissing/flaming others, there is a learning curve you know, not everyone gets it the first or second or even the third try you discourage them with stuff like that and destroy a otherwise nice game for them.

if you are in fact better, than take your time and speak up to those you think are not that good, but do not use some tool nobody "Really" needs, only to say that he is bad or a noob or what ever.

don't get me wrong, i don't have anything against those type of addons if they are used on training dummies, where you can actually learn your rotation and tweak your DPS(Damage Output or even Healing rota and output) without f****** up the Raid or dungeon, i have played WoW since Beta, and it was not long after these addons came, that they where used exactly for flaming and stuff like that by People who think they are better at everything while in fact they are not. (most of them)

A meter showing you your own damage would be great and I think really should be added to the game. There's currently no clear indicator of just how much damage you're actually doing (except when soloing) and there needs to be. That's something that can help you improve. One showing you everyone else's damage, on the other hand, does not help you improve.

This isn't like a single-player game where you're controlling the actions of a whole team. You're only controlling your own character's actions, and that's the only damage you can improve on. It's up to your teammates to maximize their damage, not you.

If SE is worried that parsers will be abused in order to kick underperformers from a party, why can't they only make your own numbers visible to you? All of the numbers are already there, logged in your battle window. Is it that difficult to implement a program that does the math for you, and averages your DPS? Maybe a toggled stat display window after a dungeon clear, similar to the ones in older FF titles?

I honestly don't care about anyone else's numbers, but I'd like to be able to see if I'm pulling my own weight, and figure out where I need to improve. I'm on the PS4 so I have absolutely no way of knowing, short of doing all the math myself, which is just tedious. I can't even toggle flying text to own show my own damage in order to keep track that way.

I don't think this is unreasonable. No one can improve if they can't even see that they're lacking. And more softcore players might not even bother, so a hidden toggle window shouldn't be too intimidating for them.

parser won't improve the casuals. Most people don't even bother with cross skills anymore, and the new summer trend are carries. I've had plenty of groups were tanks in def stance do more dmg than both or all 4 dps combined. I guess we just have to live with that, since every 2 weeks we adding more echo to content and give out free gear, so that the bad people can at least then pretend to be good. Wish we would have parser ingame tho, with the option to remove people if they are the problem to the group. There's nothing worse than wasting 90 minutes of your own time, and if you mention it people even get butt hurt.

I agree with a dps/hps/tps meter being built in game.

THE CATCH.
Because the meter is built in game, your character's dps/hps/tps data would only be seen by you. You can however enable combat data sharing and this would allow your data to be shared with any other party member who currently is sharing as well.

But that's the new thing now in these games. We baby everyone through group content.

The issue that we really need meters for is those bosses where you have to kill that add in a certain amount of time or you wipe. Or the bosses that have an enrage timer, that after it, you wipe.

Everyone else shouldn't be expected to bang their heads against a wall because some dragoon is getting his rotation wrong and only doing about 1/4 of the damage that he should. If there's going to be timed fights, or timed phases to fights, then players have to be able to parse damage... And one built into the game would be way more accurate than a 3rd party.

If the said dragoon does only 1/4 of the damage he should he has no way of passing the SSS. If he wants to improve, he now can go test that. If he doesn't want to improve, there is nothing a parser can do better.

OK, so when you're in a group with him, and you have no way of knowing that he's the reason you keep hitting the enrage, what do you do? Just keep wiping?

Timed fights with no way to know who's not pulling their minimum weight on the fight is just a bad combination. The rest of the group is expected to suffer because 1 person wants to play bad?
