Subtarget commands in ARR - Simple Questions

I was wondering if subtarget commands still work in ARR.
I find them on wikis everywhere but I can't seem to make them work.
    Examples: <st>, <stpc>, <stparty> etc

For instance I cannot make these 2 macros work:
    1) /ac "Cure" <st>
    2) /ac "Cure" <stparty>

Have these subtarget commands been removed from ARR? Is there some similar alternative?

    Complete macro command reference.

No, there are no subtarget placeholders in ARR.

I see, so they were removed :'(
Then, how can I obtain a similar effect? What I want do is being able to target something and keep that as my target (an NPC, a player, most likely an enemy target) and then press a cure macro that, after pressed, will allow me to cycle through possible eligible targets before the spell goes off, and without removing my current main target.

That way I would be able, for instance, to keep casting offensive spells on an enemy, and at the same time heal my party without having to target them first.

The only other way I found to achieve this is to use <0>, <1>, <2> and <3> target macro commands, but this way I'm gonna waste 4 crossbar slots, it wouldn't work in Fate (where I'm not in a party) or in larger events where parties are bigger than 4 members.
    Any suggestion? I feel lost

Why a cure macro and not just the Cure skill? Subtargeting still works for regular skill use.

It can be done on a controller. so there should be a way to do it. Not in macro form, but switching targets gives subtarget till confirm or if use one ability, such as a cure without confirming, it will put back to main

Probably could use focus target. Default is shift+f I think. To target again I think is F10 key.

Basically it brings up a health bar similar to when you're targeting some thing that remains even when targeting something else. Useful for Hydra for example. When Hydra is set as focus target you can see when it will use Fear Itself even when not targeting it normally.

Oooh never noticed that when you select a main target you can cast a single ability on another target and once the action is complete you return to the previous one.
Sounds good, this way I should be able to make it.

    Thanks guys
I just need to become smart and fast into using pre-set targeting filters I guess, cool cool ^^

There are a few ways to workaround the nolonger valid <st...> command.

When I started this game, I actually started with a combination of target filters and keyboard key allocation - so all I had to do was switch filters and press the relevant key to rotate to next pc and then cast away lol.

Now I have customised my UI so the party list if to my right of the screen with the enemy list near it, so using my mouse I just click on which party member I want to heal (example) and then TAB or click on the mob to retarget - tbh I have changed a lot of my keys so that they suite my play style which works for me, so the only thing I can suggest is play around with a few setups until you are happy.
If you do, you may find it a good idea to back up your save file first. If you want to know how to do that just ask

Anyway, good luck with finding the best setup for you.

I'm playing with a controller so for now the setup suggested to me by Andy and Niwashi is working great. Altough it's early to get to conclusions, I'm just level 17 and dungeons these levels are so easy it's hard to make a difference with skill etc.
Wonder why they removed the <st> placeholders btw.

I mean they added a lot of cool stuff so we can't complain, but couldn't they ALSO leave the <st> commands? It's a strange thing to remove. Did devs ever comment on that?

Technically, they got the command out, but now you can subtarget directly. For use gamepad users is kinda easier, with the whole up and down on dpad for party priority and left and right for enemies, depending your filters. I am one of those that have changed and rechanged the combat filters, UI, other settings so much, that its not even funny lol. My recommendation is that, play around with the filters and settings till you hit a sweet spot. Everyone has a different playstyle : )
