It's got good music.
It's got good music.

yes it does. Sadly it's often wasted because the tunes are so short or get drowned out by moving into a hub area or the same tired old battle theme that we've heard a billion times by now (I actually still like virtually all of XI's battle themes and 1.23's better. The only one I really truly like in ARR that's not a primal theme is Coil's)
And I for one am sick of the overworld being little more than a pretty, toothless curtain for the duty finder. Is it really so wrong to have at least SOME open world dungeons or NMs? (preferably force spawns though, I never want to see timed or lotto pops ever again - had more than my fill of that BS in XI). Most FATE are just so random and silly that I feel like they actually detract from the world rather than enhance it - not to mention they can really get in the way of certain things at the worst times, like Beast Tribe Dailies.

I think that can be credited to them using the generic songs most of the time, instead of the excellent ones.
Battle theme, cutscene music, those 2 we hear the most and they're fairly unengaging as you say, but a large amount of the music is actually pretty solid, just not as common.
And another thing, the music usually fits what the game was supposed to be like, but the game itself can't live up to the music.
For example, the Beastmen areas, Amaljaa and Ixali in particular have amazing music, but the strongholds themselves are uneventful completely, small, not dangerous in the least, I ran through them in Phase 4 at level 18 without a scratch.
Another example is the Grand Company Chocobo Theme vs the Rental Chocobo theme
