Force PS3 players to migrate over to PS4 and then drop support for it

Yeah, if FFXIV lasts 11+ years it'll hinder it. You seem to be confusing design decisions for console limitations. Why is it we have inferior storage capabilities compared to a 2001 PS2 Game? The way the storage system in XI works would easily work on the PS3 and PS4. No one said they don't exist, the limitations aren't the reason for certain design decisions they make with ARR.

The one thing people can never answer is this:

"Why is it PC only MMOs without any console port are still far limited and "behind" than even FFXI or FFXIV?"

The only thing people attempt to say is: "If they take full use of a PC no one would be able to play it." And yet, people brag about WoW's scalability...so in other words, console limiations mean nothing in the long run as proven by FFXI. The main limitation of FFXI was the storage space needed, which they increased for the PS2 as it's still in limited support in Japan but is largely unsupported and surprise, no magical transformation just because they end support of x!

FF11 on the ps2 was still supported until recently, but do you remember all the item that did disappear from the database because of trouble of memory space?

The only thing they've EVER removed from the data is Auto-Translation entries that no one used or was heavily outdated due to the state of the game and only more recent terms from ToAU on is in.

I will gladly switch to ps4 if SquareEnix buys me a ps4.
It would also work if they buy me a ps4 and increase my sub

I think everyone here is missing the point though. This is about multiple cross-platform support. Yes, ps3 graphics are inferior to PC etc etc, but ultimately this doesn't affect YOU. As i've said, some people can't afford to get a new console but still want to play the game. The ps3 console is fully capable of playing all the content available in the game and you're not really getting inferior players in your party because they're on ps3 (it's a graphical issue and frame rate is usually limited to popular fate or zones, not dungeons/raids)

So in the end, why are you caring about SE maintaining support on an older console when you can play on a new one yourself. I don't come over to your house and tell you what to do so why are you forcing ps3 players to move to a new console because you happen to find the graphic revolting and unacceptable.

Lastly, yes you can try say, those resources could be better used elsewhere etc etc. Again, this is not up to you to decide, if the company finds it most profitable to maintain multiple cross platform support, then it is their decision to make.

Actually, you miss the point.

It's not about graphics, the PS3 version will always factor into the design philosophies of the the PS4 and PC versions.
The poster above you pointed out one of those with cities split into two and zone loading. This is because of the PS3, you can't argue that.

although I agree that the best solution would be if everyone went to PS4 or a decent PC... the game hasnt been available long enough on the PS3 to consider 'dropping' it. AND theres people with PCs (or even worse - laptops) as bad as the PS3. It would take years to make it acceptable to move everyone across to PS4 or force everyone to use higher end PCs, by which time we'll only have 25% of the players that we have now anwyay.

I am amazed there is still page after page of PC players that have no clue how video games work. You don't get to lecture SE on which systems they design their games for when you don't have a clue how those designs work.

Yeah poor FFXI and its decade long running... on the PS2. ...and if the PS3 is hindering FFXIV in a decade so will most of computers its currently running on. But lets ignore reality because I want to defend my $500+ PC.

The last time a thread like this popped up, it was locked. Mostly due to the flaming from both sides being stubborn as mules believing they are correct whilst the other is not. Let people play the game how they want to play, if you have an issue with that... Sorry, SE currently has no plans to cater to 'PC MASTER RACE!' or 'PS3 MASTER RACE!' players.

They couldnt migrate PS3 players to their own server for one good reason. If they migrated characters from PS3 service accounts to dedicated PS3 servers, this would have a direct knock-on effect on people with both PC and PS3 service accounts to be forced onto a server which is still going to end up having a mix of PC and PS3 players. In short, OPs suggestion achieves nothing.

This game supports PC, PS3, and soon PS4. Deal with it kid.
