Will FFXIV:ARR support 4k monitors someday?

Hi its the holidays and stores flaunt the latest tech.
I am very interested in 4k monitors and resolutions looking even better than 1080p.
Will the game support them someday?
Are we stuck with 1080p and 720p forever?
As the game moves forward and devs think about what people want,
I would like to see FFXIV:ARR support 4kp one day.

You'll need to Google past interviews, but Yoshi said something about them supporting it (4k) with the DX11 new client, takes 3 or 4 GTX titans GPUS to run at full e.t.c. As i said you need to Goggle it for all the info.

I'd assume OP means with actual textures made at 3840x2160 rather than the current textures being stretched to that resolution.

then the asnwer is when hardware can even come close to handling it :P

Considering I have quad SLI titans and playing at the resolution I quoted with everything maxed run at 60 but not much more. Seeing as most people dont have a pc even remotely close... id imagine it would be pointless.

to be fair you did say "some day" but "some day" ffxiv will be dead and it'll be ffxv we're worried about : P well XVI (i think XV is already announced as a single player/console rpg)

I still run things at 720p, I see 4K as an extremely unnecessary feature. If it happens though, cool for people that can use it but I see no need for it.

I've actually played the game at extremely high resolutions and it looks absolutely gorgeous at resolutions higher than 2560x1600.

As you would expect, playing at higher resolutions doesn't really give you better textures, it just expands your viewing area.

Say you normally play at 1920x1080 but you add 2 extra monitors on top and set the game to the appropriate resolution to span those 3 monitors. If you walk to the bridge just outside of Limsa normally you'd only be able to see a few buildings while fully zoomed in, but at 1920x3240 you'd be able to see the very top of the highest tower (while zoomed in as far as the game camera will let you) and the result looks like this:

Now just imagine a view like that at a resolution of 6400x3600.
