One day S.E will drop support for the PS3..
That day will be glorious. Until that day rationalize all you want, for the PS3 is inevitably hamstringing FF 14's future.

They may drop support for PS3 one day, but I doubt it will be any time soon. Until then I'm happy to play on the PS3I build a new rig or somehow Nvidia magically gets another 5FPS boost through driver updates for the game on my laptop (yes I have it on both PC and PS3 versions, got the 1.0 CE a couple years back).
Yes, the PS3 does have certain limitations, mostly (if not all) hardware based, but FFXIV is optimized and tweaked up the wazoo so it can run on the system. Much of the issue is the amount of RAM the PS3 has, 2 unshared sets of RAM (256 for the CPU and 256 for the GPU). This is the main reason they had to give choppy framerates for NPC and other PC models on screen, as well as the lackluster draw distance and low draw count. It keeps the game running at a steady framerate, but it just looks choppier because they limited the frames other models move at. It certainly doesn't hold a candle to the PC version of the game graphically, I mean aside from shadows the lowest possible settings on PC still looks better than the PS3 version (I can run teh game on my laptop at about 20FPS in unpopulated areas at near lowest settings), but it still runs perfectly fine on PS3.
Also, others might have pointed this out but I'm saying it anyway: The whole "move faster than previously imagined!" thing for FFXI is a 25% movement speed increase if I recall. Had absolutely nothing to do with "PS2 limitations" (the hide certain armor parts did have to do with it though, again likely a RAM issue). Case and point: the Super Kupower that gave increased movement speed up to 25% without other movement buffs from skills like flee or chocobo jig, or equipment like the city state aketons or trotters boots. You ran quite slow in FFXI. And XI doesn't look like an N64 game >.> It actually looks great considering it came out in 2001 and is an MMO. It still holds up in my opinion, especially for not having any graphical updates.

Nah, SE should drop PC support and go back to having FF titles console-only.![]()

"Alot" is not a word. Allot is but it's unlikely to be what you want, try "A lot".

YOU can stop acting like you have smart ideas. Because if Square Enix had ideas like you, I wouldn't be playing, and they'd just be that much poorer.
It's really, really baffling how often PC players hold to this opinion. Especially when the game was literally catered around the limitations of the console.
Accessibility is paramount. More people who enjoy playing = more money = more successful. Square knows this, and that's why the game is the way it is now. That isn't changing as long as that stays true, and it's always going to stay true.

If I can afford PS4, I wouldn't bother to play this game at all.
Have a nice day.![]()
the limitation of the ps3 (people can argue that they don't exist, but they exist) will hinder the game sooner or later. the memory have already had a huge impact on ARR, the fact that most of the city are cut in 2 come from this.
FF11 on the ps2 was still supported until recently, but do you remember all the item that did disappear from the database because of trouble of memory space?
on the long term they will do a version for the ps4/pc and then try to port this on ps3. it will invole money time and energy that can be spend on other stuff (especially since ps3 don't use the same language of programation than the ps4 and pc)
as the game will be more demanding in term of hardware the ps3 will hold the game... i do hope for the second expansion, they will drop the support of this consol, that already really old, and focus on hardware that will allows them more.
Yeah, if FFXIV lasts 11+ years it'll hinder it. You seem to be confusing design decisions for console limitations. Why is it we have inferior storage capabilities compared to a 2001 PS2 Game? The way the storage system in XI works would easily work on the PS3 and PS4. No one said they don't exist, the limitations aren't the reason for certain design decisions they make with ARR.
The one thing people can never answer is this:
"Why is it PC only MMOs without any console port are still far limited and "behind" than even FFXI or FFXIV?"
The only thing people attempt to say is: "If they take full use of a PC no one would be able to play it." And yet, people brag about WoW's scalability...so in other words, console limiations mean nothing in the long run as proven by FFXI. The main limitation of FFXI was the storage space needed, which they increased for the PS2 as it's still in limited support in Japan but is largely unsupported and surprise, no magical transformation just because they end support of x!
The only thing they've EVER removed from the data is Auto-Translation entries that no one used or was heavily outdated due to the state of the game and only more recent terms from ToAU on is in.FF11 on the ps2 was still supported until recently, but do you remember all the item that did disappear from the database because of trouble of memory space?

They'll probably drop support for the PS3 once the PS4 has a stronger foothold. Migrating to the PS4 from PS3 already removes your ability to play on PS3.
Then again, 1.0's hilarious graphical screwups was a huge starting wall for people trying to play the game.
I think everyone here is missing the point though. This is about multiple cross-platform support. Yes, ps3 graphics are inferior to PC etc etc, but ultimately this doesn't affect YOU. As i've said, some people can't afford to get a new console but still want to play the game. The ps3 console is fully capable of playing all the content available in the game and you're not really getting inferior players in your party because they're on ps3 (it's a graphical issue and frame rate is usually limited to popular fate or zones, not dungeons/raids)
So in the end, why are you caring about SE maintaining support on an older console when you can play on a new one yourself. I don't come over to your house and tell you what to do so why are you forcing ps3 players to move to a new console because you happen to find the graphic revolting and unacceptable.
Lastly, yes you can try say, those resources could be better used elsewhere etc etc. Again, this is not up to you to decide, if the company finds it most profitable to maintain multiple cross platform support, then it is their decision to make.

It's not about graphics, the PS3 version will always factor into the design philosophies of the the PS4 and PC versions.
The poster above you pointed out one of those with cities split into two and zone loading. This is because of the PS3, you can't argue that.
