    Macro Help

Doing Titan i noticed a Bard was i guess using a Macro everytime he would use silence and i have seen other players use such macros. So my question(s) would be how would one go about creating a macro along with a comment? Also can the abilities be applied while using macros?

On PS3 so macros are still very new to me
Any help or links to threads would be appreciated

    Complete macro command reference.

/ac "Some kind of arrow" <t>
    /p (Some Kind of Arrow) <t> <se.7>

Or /a instead of /p if you want to tell your alliance instead of your party. No idea what the ARC silence ability is really named. The <se.7> adds a sound effect for added emphasis.

    See the link above.
To set up a macro, go to the System menu. There is an option for User Macros.
Having a keyboard really helps. Each command goes on a separate line. You are limited to 15 lines per macro. Macros cannot call other macros. Use /micon "action name" to show the cool down for that action.

Ah thanks for the replies both of you
The silence from a Bard is actually Blunt Arrow
So perhaps i can use this
    /micon "Silence"
    /ac "Blunt Arrow" <t>
    /p Blunt Arrow Applied <t> <se.7>

The player that was using it during Titan it seemed helpful but wonder if in general people get annoyed by it?
Primals and perhaps coil i can see it's uses

Also to test them so others do not hear i will use party chat with my chocobo, lol

I think you want the first line to be /micon "Blunt Arrow". That makes the cooldown timer on the macro show the cooldown for Blunt Arrow. Not really needed for actions that don't have a long cooldown, but really helpful for longer ones.

For sound effects, I normally have the sound off so I don't mind. I think most other players are okay with them occasionally .. just don't spam it.

Since Maero started this thread, I might as well ask stuff about macros in here.
As a PS3 player, I noticed that healer jobs are very unfriendly to gamepad + keypad setups. I know, some people will say "get a mouse + keyboard", but the whole point of playing on a PS3 is the gamepad, at least to me. Being as it is, I have some doubts:

I have a Scholar and I want to make a "buff" macro that works for my full party. Now, I can't cast protect and stoneskin on all party members, I don't have enough macro lines to add the last member, nor the pets.

    This is command I use:

    /ac "Protect" <me>
    /wait 2.5
    /ac "Stoneskin" <1>
    /wait 4.0

And so on till member number 7.

Is there a way to cast that on all party members using less lines? Like a <1> - <8> sort of command?
15 lines are, aparently, not enough to make healers a friendly job for PS3 users to play on their gamepads. It's not pratical to change cross hotkeys and 16 buttons is simply not enough.

In the next patch they are reportedly removing the ability to need a separate line for wait. A single macro line could look like:
    /ac "Protect" <me> <wait.3>
    Until then .. no.

By the way, "/wait 2.5" is the same as "/wait 3"- the game rounds. That is intentional to gimp macros so they don't/can't outperform a person.

Have you tried the R2+L2 option(s)? It lets you have other bar(s) set to both buttons at once. I wouldn't think that would be too hard to handle for pre-fight buff things like this at the least, if not in-combat abilities. 15 lines would be enough to SS the whole party even before the <wait.X> patch, and you could put Protect on its own button. You'll want to be able to re-protect a resurrected player mid-combat anyway.
