I think the point is, do we really want FFXIV to not just adopt every generic MMO mechanic out there, but the generic MMO branding as well?

I've always held this series to a higher standard.

From the looks of it, the boss fights are going to have a bit of depth to them...

Precisely! I am glad that at least one person understand what I'm talking about.
Yes, exactly, do we really want another copy-paste mmo that will fizzle in a year or two? Or something fantastic like XI that will last for many years.

I am hoping that the term used is to just get across the point that that's what it is, a dungeon crawl with a boss, and that for future instalments including those that are storyline related will have a better title that can be used in conversation and not all content will be summed up by one four letter word.

XI lasted for many years but it was far from fantastic gameplay. That age has past and gone and no XI clone will ever be successful again because that type of a game does not appeal to anyone else but people who hold some kind of sentiment for it and that's a minority. XI was terribly managed also and this game will go nowhere from the same type of attitude.

FF strength was story, epic battles, great music, amazing atmosphere. I really do hope it doesnt get watered down to
one of the many mmo clones (one doesnt need to mention wow anymore since every current mmo is a clone of one another). And if they want, they will fail even harder then other companies who are working for the western market only.
These companies don't manage to get the wow playerbase, since they stick to wow. The only thing you get is a handful of the people who seen all in wow, but even then they are likely to return to wow.

FFXIV needs to find a niche to be profitable. A niche doesnt mean they won'T get enough subscribers, i think it will be the opposite even. They are not fast enough compete with the big players on the market. So they have to be inventive and smart and focus on other things. And focus on content that has high replay value and doesnt get outdated within a day or two. IF the game gets like most other mmos there is no point in playing it, since other mmos offer a shit load of content compared to what ffxiv will ever be able to cover... So SE, better be inventive, you won't stand a chance catering to the
    saturated wow market imho.

You still havn't put up the mosh fail pic as your sig gath!

Even though other games call them raids its still going to go back to WOw and people are going to say... Oooh.. just another Wow clone.. Lets give it them a creative name like.. "Sdiar Runs"

For the record I dont care for Wow either.. It attracts some of the most Moronic people in the entire world (most of them i think )..

XIV is copying and stealing features from other games but implementing them wrong, while Blizzard does it right. Almost nothing can be called new or revolutionary, most things have been done.

This is the difference between them, and why WoW has its 11 Million+ subscribers.

It's like they are blind to what makes MMOs attractive to players

They are and the solution is very very simple

Easy, supper casual, shallow content, with copy pasted features from previous successful mmos are the only things that sell copys. Honestly it is not just mmo it is the whole video game genre as whole.

For a mmo the person who can best copy WoW will win, those who fail to copy/paste wow will fail and fail hard. Sad truth of the genre now days.

Not if they intend to copy it no, but there's more to XI than just the battle system and how easy that is to forget when that's all anyone ever manages to talk about. The storyline, the difference in campaigns, including reward, reputation, and questing and how everything came together in the end.

Those are all things XIV could benefit from by implementing them instead of using these apparent 'new age' mmo tactics of quest grind > instance > instant reward.

Every time I hear such comments about XI being dead and gone makes me wonder if anyone's actually reading these posts. You can separate XI's gameplay from the content, you know? it was beautiful, engaging, and involved. Don't tell me that game developers are too lazy these days to come up with a story to go along with a dungeon. If that's called "asking too much" then really, what the hell?

    TL;DR
To reiterate, the request and longing is for any content to have at least a LITTLE depth to it, rather than be another boring copy+paste of previous content, and or content used in other MMO's.

FFS, there is nothing wrong with instanced material, the thing is like Zan's signature says, we'd like a little more FINAL FANTASY in our Final fantasy XIV.

I don't how many times I've typed this but, again for you.

Hironobu Sakaguchi is gone, the final fantasy you and I know is dead.
