Oh another thing.... people in my Japanese LS have no problem calling it a raid.
Talk about not being tainted by past MMOs![]()
First off I'd like to say you shouldnt have a problem with other people having a problem with a term. If its pointless let it be pointless. This has gone on for more pages than needed.
For me, the term doesn't bother me because of where it comes from or anything. It just sounds bland when coming out of the developers mouth, as if there is a lack of personal care to it. Its not because it "omg comes from WoW" or anything. It hits me like this "we're adding raids" "why should I care?" "They have gear" "and?" I'd like to know area history/reason for entering/ people involved etc. Usually a name ties that together. Thats my only quarrel with this issue.
I agree. It's a good thing they've given them names, then, wouldn't you agree?First off I'd like to say you shouldnt have a problem with other people having a problem with a term. If its pointless let it be pointless. This has gone on for more pages than needed.

I'm not ignoring the part where you say you "don't care." I am, however, focusing on the part that always follows, where you say you hope they use "something more creative." I do consider your association of the word "raid" with Zerg->loot to be sad, though. Just a difference of opinion, I suppose.Well first paragraph was completely unnecessary, seeing as i never claimed that FFXIV did not have ZERG content. ZERG content is ZERG content its in many games i never attached the two terms to FFXIV and WoW for comparison to make the point that the stigma exists, you attempted to put those words in my mouth through an assumption.
Raid just reminds me of the same old song and dance, ZERG and LOOT at the end, nothing sad about that, like i have stated and you have ignored if the term "raid" stays i ultimately don't care, i would just prefer something more creative in the end.
You say raid was rarely used.
-your word against mine-
I say i herd it all the time.
And i had plenty of experience in WoW, so your last claim is completely baseless and falls apart, seeing as your assuming Im an outsider to the game which i was not.
I could be mis-remembering how often it was used. Obviously, I don't think I am, but, hey, human memory sucks. We could both be exaggerating our respective sides, and there'd be almost no way to tell. I will continue to assert, though, that it was used much more towards outsiders than it was towards other players.
Now, on to your first paragraph. . .
The term "raid" is not owned by WoW and if it is truly a raid then great call it that what ever, I'm just shocked at the people who play Final Fantasy's and do not care about the lore attached to the content.
Part of the WoW disease if you ask me ZERG content for LOOTS, and who gives a flying fu** about the immersion, plot, world and community. So, to be clear, you associate WoW with Zerg->loot, yet you claim that you never attached the terms to WoW. You then argue that XIV shouldn't have “raids” because that somehow also implies Zerg->loot. I fail to see how I'm putting words into your mouth at this point. You clearly say that “WoW disease” is Zerg->loot, and that FFXIV shouldn't have anything that's Zerg->loot. The fact is, I've already done more zerging in FFXIV than I ever did in WoW, so I don't see why we shouldn't have raids; especially since, and I hope you agree to this, raid doesn't really mean Zerg->loot. People just think it does.
I also associate DCUO, Diablo, and many other games with ZERG and loot, the word "Raid" i never said is exclusively belonging to only WoW; so comparing only WoW to FFXIV is putting words in my mouth. The WoW disease is more then just ZERG and Loot, there are more factors then that, too many to go into detail in this thread alone. This whole discussion was not about the content of FFXIV's "raid's" it is of the stigma attached to the word "raid". FFXIV instances could be exactly like your normal raid, im sure it will be but the name could at least be changed so this does not happen. So, to be clear, you associate WoW with Zerg->loot, yet you claim that you never attached the terms to WoW. First timer: The hell's an "invasion"?
Friend: Well, you get a bit of story, then you get a bunch of people together and go to this dungeon, which we call an invasion. Then, you clear the dungeon, kill some bosses, and get some cool new items.
First timer: So. . . it's like a raid, but with more plot?

Friend: NO! WE CALL IT AN INVASION! 'RAID' IS A TERM FOR YOUR EASY MODE WESTERN MMO!
First timer: Uh. Oooo...kay?
Friend: You can come join me and my friends, but don't bring your mediocre westerner terminology in this masterpiece of a game.
First timer: I think I'll pass.
