And am I the only one who sees that Eos is not the way in the majority of the content? I mean Eos heal buff can only do so much, while Selene's spellspeed buff is really something to look for, especially when you have a 2 DPS caster in your party (which is really common nowadays).
I LOVE SCHOLAR. I loved SCH in FFXI, and now I love them even more on FFXIV. Scholar is a tactical class, and picks up were the party may be lacking. While there is no one role that SCH performs best, they can do a little bit of everything. As long as SCH is a jack-of-all trades, I will always play SCH in every FF game.

My point, you determine your pet and time to use spells based on the parties situational needs.

You're definitely not the only one. I actually use Selene in the vast majority of the content for the game simply because Eos' extra healing abilities aren't really needed. I do still use Eos for Turn 5 though but I will probably make the jump to Selene eventually. Eos (imo) is the safer choice for progressing on new content, but Selene is usually better overall.

[Edit] I think I also would use Eos for solo-healing certain content (like EX Garuda or HM Titan), but even then I'm not sure it's necessary.

i shelved eos a looong time ago. at this point i can heal every encounter in the game without needing her abilities. and although WD and illuminate are especially useful, many high-healing encounters are also dps checks -- turn 5, ifrit ex, etc -- so selene wins out for me even in those cases. only times i use eos are when i need to seriously compensate for having a terrible healing partner, but usually i don't spend much time in those groups anyway.

this is however at least partially a result of my being geared to the teeth and having done everything. i'm sure i'll bust her back out when it comes time to progress again.

switch to selene! it takes some getting used to healing the snakes without having illuminate but once you get over that hump there's not much left that requires major healing. after 2-3 pulls you won't even notice the difference in healing, but you WILL notice the difference in party dps

Because Selene plays an active role in DPS, so it would make sense that she has a skill which plays an non damage dps role.
Clearly you limited knowledge of SCH, let me inform you there is an inst cast skill called RuinII, this blinds.

Both Eos and Selene are support pets, with unique attributes, Eos is support for healers, Selene for Dps.

On the whole EOS vs Selene it will depend on party makeup.
Sometimes the effect of Selene is not worth the dps you can provide if you access to WD and Fey Ilu.

I use Eos because after running some tests with my fully i90 geared DRG friend, we realized that the skill speed buff from Selene didn't actually help much. It took off a total of 0.1 seconds from his cast time. We tried the spell speed buff with his lower geared BLM and he again didn't notice much of a difference in his cast time. My impression was that selene's skill/ spell speed buffs provided such miniscule benefits in terms of speeding up of the fights that I'm better off using Eos for better heals instead.

Helios Megistos would be pretty op, doubling the potency on 2 min cd would be sick, just compare it to Divine Seal or Fey Illumination.

I was just thinking about Helios a few weeks ago. I like some of your ideas but I think this kind of skill set would be better suited.

Embrace - the default fairy ability

Sol Glare - Deals 150 Potency Fire Damage to a single enemy target. Additional Affect: Stuns the enemy for 5s on a 40s cooldown

Fey Aureole (or Fey Halo) - Increase all physical resistance on self and party members by 20% for 20s on a 90s cooldown. Returns negated damage back at source (15y radius)

Helios Megistos (or 'Sol Invictus') - Deals 200 Potency Fire Damage to a single enemy target. Increase all incomming damage on enemy target by 40% while dealing a 15 fire damage potency dot for 20s on a 120s cooldown.

Names are subject to change. :<

I would also like to add, Helios should be used in non healing intensive boss fights and when the scholar is soloing on some solo duty instance and/or quest. Where as selene is used for a dps race against a squadron of mobs/adds and eos for.. you know. Healing intensive fights. Reason why the potency damage seems so "high" is to factor in main and mend + cleric stance does not effect pet stats.

Since we already have Blind with Ruin II I'd like the fairy to have a stun instead (to go with the silence of Selene)
