New Class/Job Before the expansion (Is that still happening?)

I recall in one of the older FFXIV interviews that Yoshi and the Devs we're planning on implementing another class (and or) job before the game's first big expansion. I was Just curious on whether or not this was still an intention and if so, what are they leaning towards. Will it be a Disciple of War or Magic? Will it be a Melee, Range, or Support?

Personally I hope it's Musketeer since the it's the only other guild in the game and it's the one class that the Devs have kinda been *Hush Hush* about.

I still believe that Yoshi-p has every intention to add another class / jobs through the major update and not just reserving them for Expansion packs. The big question indeed is, when can we expect to see a new class / job? In 2.2? 2.3 perhaps? That, we don't know and Yoshi-p is keeping his lips tight for now. But, yeah... I also hope that they will add a new class with 2 more jobs before the expansion hits. If they do, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for Musketeer (class) and Red Mage (Job).

Red Mage heard so many good things bout them in ffxi.

Onion knight there concept could be awesome. They are fast attacker and can be devastating. One of there moves is random amount of hits. Can be devastating

Mystic Knight. Elemental swordsman nuf said.

I'd like to see some melee sword dps. Sad to only see swords for tanking.

well i hope before expansion but most possible it will be at expansions even they might raise cap level so why not add another class with it.

Yoshi did say there is a "high possibility" of new jobs releasing before the expansion pack at last year's PAX convention.

However, we don't know how many patches we'll see before the expansion. It could be 2.6 before we see it.

First expansion won't be until this coming Winter or even early to mid 2015. So we have plenty of time before then to get new Classes. If they keep the 3 Month release for 2.x patch updates, even if we don't get anything in 2.2, which is technically the "Spring Patch" as 2.1 was the "Winter Patch" and the game was a Fall release. So we still have a "Summer Patch" 2.3 and "Fall Patch" 2.4 before we may see the first expansion.

I don't really know how the numbers relate to expansions so would it be FFXIV:ARR 3.0 when the expansion releases or would they keep the same number scheme and the Expansion be 2.5 and continue forward from there? Either way, at least 2 Patches before the estimated release for the first Expansion if the "Late this year" was to be believed. ( I do recall him saying that the Expansion would be later this year and I want to say it was said for somewhere around winter.)


Most likely a good chance that we'll get new classes due to Legacy Players. Since they're already capped out and have little to nothing to do other than join in on new content when added and update their gear, the Devs want to give them more to do so leveling a full class and Job would take that gap if the person took their time with it.

Wish they would have kept the Level cap raise as part of a Patch update as well, but that has already been mentioned to be expected in the Expansion if anything. New Race was being looked into for expansion and possible new skills if we get level cap raise.

Its all still theory in circulation, so there weren't many definites posted in that update other than expected new race.

Keyword "Possibility", don't expect any new jobs until the expansion. Any new jobs added now i don't even see how they would fit in the given cities we have now besides musketeer.

Musketeer/Corsair is almost certainly confirmed. The class emblem placard is hanging in Coral Tower at the entrance. I would expect them to release the class either 2.3 or 2.4, leaning towards 2.4. Assuming the expansion comes out 1.5 years after initial release (Spring '15), I would guess they would release Corsair in patch 2.4 which would be exactly 1yr after initial launch.

1 year after "initial launch" is in fact four years after we learned about Musketeer. I hate waiting.
