    Getting Past That Awkward Moment

I realize that we already have a post about healing nightmares on this board... and while my story would be considered a nightmare, I have a bigger question: How do you get past that nightmare time?

I was doing Qarn and working on lvling my White Mage. We got as far as the first boss and we were repeatedly wiping. First time was because no one was protecting me from the bees. The second was due to rezing the tank because the wound up Doomed. Third time for similar reasons... then we have a DPS who is overly squishy and would repeatedly bite it.

After about the fifth try we decided to call it a wash. I feel like I did everything I could, but it wasn't enough... so how do I get past this feeling that I'm a crappy healer?

You know I'm wondering the same thing after burning through soooo many teams for titan HM... Don't get me wrong I can do the fight just fine on the two easiest jobs in there you know Paladin and Bard, but the second I got in a casting bar no matter when I moved I'd get hit by plumes. I was told by this overly geared healer who is good at what s/he does that there was no reason to help a person who can't dodge in titan through titan...

    I'm starting to get more confident after managing to heal garuda EM, but I still feel like a crappy healer and would like to get over it ;n;

    1. Ask yourself: What did I do wrong? & What could I have done differently?
    2. Get back up on the horse.

This boss can be a nightmare with people who just don't get it. There's really no way to carry the fight as a healer, everyone (or at least three out of four people) needs to be on the ball with Doom and Bees. Unfortunately you will encounter people who die to Doom *over and over*, even after you explain the mechanic multiple times, depressingly often.

Something that may help with bad parties is making really annoying sound effect macros. When Doom is placed on the party or Bees spawn, mash your macro a bit and hopefully they'll wake up and realize they need to do something other than drool all over their keyboard. Throw in a healthy dose of beeps, chimes, bongos, whatever. It works pretty well!

Similar to Elkya95, its kind of hard to know when youre doing something wrong. I have been struggling for Titan HM on my healer. Managed the other 2 primals well, healing lvl 50 dungeons pretty well, but i just dont know if its me or the team after Titan's Heart phases :/

Usually when there's a wipe and you feel that you are a decent healer, it's other people not doing their jobs.

A good example is Titan (hard and extreme). If somebody eats a plume, they're dead. You can't do nothing about that.
If somebody eats a landslide, they are probably dead. You can't doing nothing about that either.

A lot of time, there are things that happen that aren't controlled by a healer but by how everyone else in the party plays.
DPS/Tank eat unnecessary things, more healing from you or you'll have to rez them.
Tank doesn't tank adds or dps don't kill them, you'll get hate (which usually isn't your fault, healing is a lot hate if no one has hate)

Just pick your head up and brush it off. First time I did Ifrit extreme, I thought I was a crappy healer too. Then I realized what was going wrong
and what I couldn't control. Picked up my pieces, and moved on and got my win that same night. Just think positive :3

Tank should be picking up the bees and DPS killing them ASAP since their sting does a ton of damage and would likely kill most people. There's really not a whole lot a healer can do if people are dying to Doom or if no one is touching the bees.

As for Titan HM, his attacks follow a pattern so if you're slow at getting out of plumes consider starting to move before they appear. Your main priority should be yourself not dying or getting knocked off the edge, even if it means you need to stop casting a heal and move. After that you can start looking at why other people are dying. Unless people are dying during stomps or the tank is falling over from mountainbusters, then it's probably not a healing issue. Even without a cooldown up, a tank should never die to mountainbuster as long as healers are on the ball (although ideally they should be using one).

    1. Always admit when you makes mistakes.
    2. Blame the tank for everything else.
    3. Play better.

    That is what I do.

A lot of tanks have healer alts. You're bound to run into one, like me, who knows when you're messing something up. We might try to offer you advice, though we know it's considered rude. Otherwise, if you feel like you are to blame for the wipes, or you really have no idea who is messing what up, just ask in the party chat, "Is there something I am doing wrong or missing?" Trolls will jump on this moment to attack you, but most people will offer any honest observations they know of to try and get you to see a detail you might be missing.

Don't let one run, or one of the harder dungeons get you down. Qarn was no joke when I was leveling my healer. Up to Qarn, it's all tank-and-spank and spam DPS. Then all-the-sudden, people actually have to pay attention. Chin up. You'll be fine
