I mark enemies simply for the dps's reference. Especially in duty roulette, I find that endgame dps skip the order, and even when they keep the order, they push the throttle just to make sure I'm breaking out every enmity tool.

This reminds me of a Brayflox Hard run yesterday. Everything was going well, but I was getting some odd lag that I hadn't had all day in 8-man parties, so SE screwed them up somehow because several other people were telling me they were having the same issue. And as a DRG, it can be very annoying when Impulse Drive goes through then you try and Disembowel and the lag cuts it off, says you used it, but doesn't give the attack to the target and you have to wait a few seconds.
As we went on and we got to the first boss, the Tank wasn't communicating at all. They ran off to go attack a few Colibris near a chest, and didn't tell us, everyone else was near the gate to the 1st Boss. I hear that they're fighting and run over quickly, they're half dead by this point and subsequently die. They didn't mark the targets, or tell us that they wanted to go for an item chest. First issue with them. I ask them to tell us what they're doing and make sure everyone is ready before they run off, and I get a backhanded comment about how they've never done anything of the sort.
1st boss fight still crippled by random lag and the Tank is doing good enough here, for the first time which I gave advice for already by this point. We get to the next section, and they out of spite apparently decide to run far ahead, aggro every enemy in the area, and all the while not mark any targets or say anything. By this point I vote to dismiss them once we finish killing the 10+ targets somehow, they're not communicating and I'm fed up with Tanks trying to be a one-man army all day by this point.
Other members don't want to dismiss them, probably because it takes too long to get a Tank, but we're already having difficulties fairly early on and I'd like to not waste time with a pain in the ass Tank.
Takes about 50 minutes to get through the dungeon, we wipe several times on the Gobmachine because no one dodged the bombs, and overall it was just another bad experience. It's easy enough to see when a Tank isn't doing their job, and the lag and bad communication was making me even less motivated to do my Job properly, so basically if a Tank doesn't want to put any effort into making it go smoothly, it's really not even worth the time to do a run. SE wanted to encourage more people to Tank, but as someone else said in another thread, it's a thick-skinned role. You do your job well, everything goes well. You don't, you're going to be the first one to blame if you're not doing what you need to. They're giving Duty Roulette bonuses to Paladins, but MRD/WAR isn't getting it, or maybe WAR is and MRD isn't because you use it for low-level dungeons, I don't know, could be a technicality I'm unaware of.
I'd much prefer to have a WAR over the PLDs I've gotten recently myself.
I used to mark, but so many people ignored them that I stopped bothering to do it for every pull. Never had any aggro issues.
I'm more than willing to use marks if people actually follow them.

So...this thread isn't about mobs that bring you close to death. And it's not about mobs that deal hefty damage that should be brought down first. And it's not about tanks that have a hard time holding enmity.
...so it's about vanilla mobs that have low HP and how to shave off two or three seconds per room? How is this even close to being worth thinking about?
I like how the OP changed the first post so much no one knows what is even being talked about anymore
as a monk and warrior ... i dont think always mark every single mob across the way to boss room are needed .... sometime regular area in dungeon a logical sense is kill the lowers HP mob 1st or the marked mob that must be kill on sign 1st ... some time dps do need to know how tank feel ... most painful its the healer ... have to cleaning up tank and dps asses that doesnt know the simple fight
what he said. i used to mark targets in games, including FF14. noone follows them, so i just quit trying.

Easy Answer to the OP: If I'm getting hit in the face for you by a bunch of goblins and couerls while some goblin off in the distance is firing Mortars at us, the least you could do is kill the damn Couerl first. Paralyzed = No mitigation.
Asshole answer: I'm already leading, so either follow, or get the hell out of my instance.

Nobody doing the Duty Roulette ever seems to bother marking targets.
Which isn't really a problem until you dropping Sleep on things without telling me that you're dropping Sleep on things. I am not psychic.

As a tank, I mark so the dps know what to focus most damage on to get faster kills. Nothing's more annoying than you holding six mobs why you attack on, DRG attacks a different one, and the MNK at another. At this point honestly, I'm more concerned about just keeping hate even if the DPS fight their own mob.
When I'm DPS and the tank isn't marking, it's nothing to me to just attack the mob who's losing health faster than the others.
