as a monk and warrior ... i dont think always mark every single mob across the way to boss room are needed .... sometime regular area in dungeon a logical sense is kill the lowers HP mob 1st or the marked mob that must be kill on sign 1st ... some time dps do need to know how tank feel ... most painful its the healer ... have to cleaning up tank and dps asses that doesnt know the simple fight

Ive noticed as Blm that if I use an AOE fire spell, I generate more enmity to whichever mob I targeted. Even though the spell might do equal damage to all mobs hit, it doesnt seem to do equal enmity to all mobs hit. Therefore if the tank marks one, I can target my AOE spells against the marked one.

Marking multiple targets before the pull can be done without even stopping your movement to the pull, more less if you just mark the one you are targeting.

Bottom Line: There are several reason to mark. The only reason not to is because the tank is lazy.

You noticed wrong sir. All enemies hit gain the same aggro. Also, even if it were true, it doesn't matter what you target if the tank just holds all the aggro.

12 tab 3 tab 12 tab 3 tab 12 etc. <-- How to tank properly.

When a DPS pulls aggro from you and you try to regain it while another gets pulled by the healer for trying to keep you alive, resulting in a hectic pull and overall increase in Waste of Time™ and Bad Party Experience®, you'll change your tune.

They won't. . . because I actually watch what everyone is doing and plan for it

Well aren't you just the most epic tank in the whole wide world!

Is it necessary? No. Does it make a run a thousand times smoother, especially for new DPS who might not yet know the kill order? Absolutely. Is it easier in low level content because mobs barely tickle you to get away with just spamming overpower indiscriminately? Yep. Is it a thousand times easier on your healer in places like Stone Vigil where mobs hit like trucks to have a kill order and CC some of them?

You betcha. There's a bunch of reasons to mark. If you don't want to acknowledge the value in it because you think you are some sort of ubertank that can just faceplant everything - that's your choice. I hope I never get filtered into one of your parties.

So you choose to not mark, but claims that you plan for what everyone else is doing

    Seems legit

When I tank, I simply tell the DPS that I'm cool with them going nuts on AOE and I let nature take its course.

I mark to show the order I'm going to be dumping the majority of my Halone combos in. I Flash and Circle regularly to keep AOE threat. People apply dots as appropriate; single-target DPS focus marked targets; we all go home happy.
