I'm not sure if you also noticed the delay on the Ex weapon compared to the relic +1.

I currently use the Ex weap since the delay is less and of course it it's nice to have that crit.

However i do swap back n forth between some gear depending on what Acc i need etc but in general i prefer the Elder over the +1.

... ... You do realize that the weapon delay only affects auto attacks...not your Cast speed or GCD lol, so with losing the 37 spell speed both are increased, not decreased.

Anyway, I was initially excited when I saw the det/crit like everyone else, so I bought the Elder Staff first, thinking to replace my Zenith. Sadly, Ive tried it out on lots of fights (All EXs, Coil 1-5, etc) and was very disappointed to find that I do significantly less dmg using it. I was originally stacking crit/det, but since noticing the the DPS increase from Zenith over Elder, I switched out all my equipment to Spell Speed, and do more DPS than I ever have.

So, in my experienced (and what any DPS calculator will tell you) Spell Speed is King, no BLM with equal ilvl wielding an Elder Staff has equaled my DMG, let alone exceeded it. I guess its fine as a place holder for allagan, but if you aren't in a group downing T5, and want to maximize your DPS, go with Zenith.

Edit: Looks like we better avoid mentioning "damage" all together. SE does not like the method we use to find out our DPS, another case was just reported in reddit.

I use HQ Buttons on all my DPS classes, in both calculators and in my parse experience they outperform Devil Eggs by a bit, as far as SS food, think I only bothered to look it up once and there isn't even a higher lvl version available, theres a lowbie food with crappy SS on it, so SS food is not an option.

And sure, I don't have all the pieces for full SS yet, I just switch over all my crit/det pieces, IE heroes, to Allagan ( I do have the t5 neck), I still need Allagan Boots, Gloves, and Chest though (Have DL boots and gloves, and AF2 Chest)


*Highest SS food is pineapple ponze, with 3%/22 Spell speed (need 733 spell speed to max, so would only get like 15 with 500 ish spell speed) and its paired with PIE lol.

That's very interesting to read and reading what NeoAmon mentions makes me wonder and think into this a bit more.
I did read the delay as the delay to attack be it auto or an action of sorts weap/cast but i guess coming from other mmos including ffxi it made me think otherwise.

I try to stay more crit based gear wise so with the Elder still kinda works for me but i will check out some numbers and read around since you mentioned the +1 seems better crit or not, might just go SS if that's the case.

edit: thinking about it all though, i don't think the dps between the ex weap and +1 is going to come up that big, would love to hear any numbers you found.
