BLM Question

I was able to get my hands on 3 tokens for one of the new ilv 90 weapons.

My 3 50 classes are whm, bard, blm. Bard has relic +1 so even though the elfin bow looks really nice I wouldn't be able to support the accuracy loss right now and I already have ilv90 in that slot anyways. Whm X weapon looks pretty crummy with the crit on it, from what I've read it is the least desirable secondary for WHM. Truth be told I can't really tell a difference from stacking a lot of any secondary on whm.

That leaves black mage, when I initially looked at the stats on elder (crit/det) vs. relic (det/SS) I thought it was a no brainer because as I understood it crit was the best secondary for blm. However, i've now read a bunch of threads across a few sources that argue relic +1 is better...

End choice for me here is either upgrade to relic +1 for whm and X weapon for blm or vice versa.

Am i correct in thinking that the elder staff is better than relic +1 overall? Accuracy not an issue as neither of them have it anyways. Having both +1 and X weapon is not going to be possible for a long time. Getting Allagan weapon is definitely not possible for even longer. (sorry hit word max)

I forget where I saw the graph, but gearing for spell speed is the best thing for BLM dps.

Interesting, I always pictured BLM as the slow heavy hitter and thought returns on SS weren't great. That being said I guess the relic +1 is the better option?

I'm on my phone at the moment. I'll see if I can't dig up the graph when I get the chance. Assuming nobody has done it already.

As for whether +1 is better? That's probably more up to how you play.

I'm not sure if you also noticed the delay on the Ex weapon compared to the relic +1.

I currently use the Ex weap since the delay is less and of course it it's nice to have that crit.

However i do swap back n forth between some gear depending on what Acc i need etc but in general i prefer the Elder over the +1.

I'm a crit/det person myself, but I can see the spellspeed argument.

On BLM it doesn't run you out of resources more quickly like it would on other classes. You just get to your regen phase faster. So you're spitting more spells faster and there's no problem! Maybe you upset the regen phase a bit if you're too quick, but just throw another scathe in there or something?

Great thanks everyone! I think i'm going to go with the blm extreme weapon! I'll stick with zenith for whm and sometime in the distant future ill upgrade to zenith for blm too

int > acc > skill speed > det/crit. If you have no latency/ping issue.

Speed is better than det/crit for blm and quite a few of other jobs as well; I've been saying this over and over again but people won't listen cuz they either like to talk out of their asses or copy others do talk out of their asses without actually testing and calculating it themselves. Eventually, I just stopped caring. Speed does require you to maximize your up-time as much as possible though.

In the end though, it is a moot point, the differences in 2ndary stats hardly matters.
