Vanilla WoW (widely regarded as the best itteration of WoW) also managed to make boss fights interesting without the need of DPS Parsing, I was one of those people that disagreed with the whole "Enrage" mechanic on every boss ever, the odd one or two bosses? Definatley (Doomlord Kazzak comes immediatley to mind) but the way the Enrage mechanic is being used in modern MMO's is a lazy way of making bosses difficult without interesting strats (Even then it isn't a difficulty curve it's a gear gate). Vanilla WoW managed to achieve progressive play without Enrage on every boss, The whole progression from Dungeon to 24 to 40 man raid was natural and actually a lot more fun.

It's a Shame that we will never see the likes of Nefarian, Ragnaros or Cromagus boss battles again, because folk are quite happy to settle with "Enrage" and judge on figures that are more rough estimates than hard facts.
