I have always used the "Ghetto Meter" built into every game. Did mob die? You did more damage/healing than their damage/healing. Did you die? It did more damage/healing than your damage/healing.
MANTASTIC: I got 1017 problems, but playing FFXIV ain't one.
Llyren: Lala Tanks hit point density levels attract small planets
Um yes it are. The whole reason of parser is for have accurate reading of dps and accuracy, thing you are for never know by reading combat log. There are reason people know BiS gear and necessary accuracy require for fight, and it are because of parser.
Do you need parser? No. Will you be better with parser? Yes. It are tool used by elite player to defeat big boss by analyze personal dps weakness for make improvement.
Never needed a parser in the old days, don't need one now. You should always look to better yourself, but Parsers are not the answer because they are far too open to abuse.
Parsers were the reason Rift Raiding was only ever completed by a small portion of folk early on, because they were using it to alienate certain builds based off an "Estimate" Delve that doesn't take into account real DPS in boss scenarios, heck Bards would parse terribly compared to other healers but it didn't stop players from progressing in the "real" situation.
I'm glad SE is against parsing tools, because they are nothing more than an estimate figure people use to shun folk because of their prefered playstyle.
Edit: Back in DaoC (before dps parsers even existed) I used to play a HeraTank (Melee Heretic) back then people thought stuff like that was cool and loved to see people succeed in different from the norm playstyles.

Oh yes, please bring a parser to XIV... with that and Ilevel the complete destruction of the community into meter humpers and drooling Ilevelers will be complete.
I am so personally excited to see who the first group to scream for nerfing other jobs will be, and who the first ones to scream for buffs will be...
Don't let them fool you- anyone asking for a parser is an e-peener and someone looking for an excuse to degrade others. The bane of any game and its community. -which btw is why they don't work here. Yoshi has seen "those people" that use lolmeterz and has found them to be trash.

hah, funny this is the first thread I see today, here's why:
This morning in Garuda EX there were two bards in the party, one of the bards was using a parser and would post numbers after the fight. Even though we killed Garuda about 4 times just fine, the bard with the parser kept yelling at the other bard because his DPS wasn't on par with the rest of us, he initiated a vote kick twice. He also berated another player for low dps and quote, "You're DPS is low, learn to play your class scrub. SMN and I are covering both(other bard) your DPS." before he realized it was a tank, to which he didn't even apologize. We voted to kick the annoying bard and a lesser geared goon joined and we killed garuda a few more times, easy.
Overall I'm against parsers, but I like the idea of having one just for your personal DPS. It's a tool that can/will be abused, there are already parties in PF's with "if you die more than once, you get kicked" can you imagine what its gonna be like with open parsers? "Need good DPS, if its low, you get kicked." Not saying it will always be like that, but the overall community has been declining, with more so called "Elite" and "Pros" who rage when things doesn't go their way.
Classes have hate shed abilities that make it difficult to use the threat meter in game to gauge who's performing well. If you PUG two DPS for Coil and cant clear Turn 4 are you going to just boot both PUGs? What if one of your static DPS is just having a bad night? At one point we possibly could have kicked our now static BLM when we picked her up as a PUG when it was the PUG BRD who was falling short. Sure you can look at the battle log every so often or the onscreen graphics and notice a DPS isn't using certain abilities or combos but you cant always manage that.
