How is this even a logical response? You're right, you can usually see how gimp someone is with your own two eyes. You can also equip an ilvl 90 weapon and know that you're doing more DPS than you did with your ilvl 80 one. Do you know EXACTLY how much though? Are you going to glue your eyes to the log and write down each point of damage on your napkin and break it down after 5 turns of coil?
Didn't think so. Don't post just to hear yourself talk...
Do you need to know exactly how much DPS you and the other three dps in your party are doing? No. You don't. Did you meet the DPS checks? Grats. Did you not? Um yes it are. The whole reason of parser is for have accurate reading of dps and accuracy, thing you are for never know by reading combat log. There are reason people know BiS gear and necessary accuracy require for fight, and it are because of parser.
Do you need parser? No. Will you be better with parser? Yes. It are tool used by elite player to defeat big boss by analyze personal dps weakness for make improvement.
Never needed a parser in the old days, don't need one now. You should always look to better yourself, but Parsers are not the answer because they are far too open to abuse.
Parsers were the reason Rift Raiding was only ever completed by a small portion of folk early on, because they were using it to alienate certain builds based off an "Estimate" Delve that doesn't take into account real DPS in boss scenarios, heck Bards would parse terribly compared to other healers but it didn't stop players from progressing in the "real" situation.
I'm glad SE is against parsing tools, because they are nothing more than an estimate figure people use to shun folk because of their prefered playstyle.
Edit: Back in DaoC (before dps parsers even existed) I used to play a HeraTank (Melee Heretic) back then people thought stuff like that was cool and loved to see people succeed in different from the norm playstyles.

Because back in the ye old days, there weren't many DPS checks beyond your healers running out of mana. And before you go all crazy on me about ye old games, I've been playing these since UO.
I prefer having a parser because it allows me to see where I need to improve, and who, in the raids I lead, needs to improve. And how else would you find out you need to improve without accurate data? I can say "We need better DPS for this DPS check" all day but no one is going to always own up and say "I'll look to adjust my gear/food setup, and my rotation".
Vanilla WoW (widely regarded as the best itteration of WoW) also managed to make boss fights interesting without the need of DPS Parsing, I was one of those people that disagreed with the whole "Enrage" mechanic on every boss ever, the odd one or two bosses? Definatley (Doomlord Kazzak comes immediatley to mind) but the way the Enrage mechanic is being used in modern MMO's is a lazy way of making bosses difficult without interesting strats (Even then it isn't a difficulty curve it's a gear gate). Vanilla WoW managed to achieve progressive play without Enrage on every boss, The whole progression from Dungeon to 24 to 40 man raid was natural and actually a lot more fun.
It's a Shame that we will never see the likes of Nefarian, Ragnaros or Cromagus boss battles again, because folk are quite happy to settle with "Enrage" and judge on figures that are more rough estimates than hard facts.
Maybe that's because Bards were support classes in Rift?Parsers were the reason Rift Raiding was only ever completed by a small portion of folk early on, because they were using it to alienate certain builds based off an "Estimate" Delve that doesn't take into account real DPS in boss scenarios, heck Bards would parse terribly compared to other healers but it didn't stop players from progressing in the "real" situation.
ITT:
A legion of incompetent DPS scrubs QQQQing about their self-inflicted inferiority.
"Titan HM: If you don't have full i90, kick".
Old FC dumbasses tried to pull a gearcheck on me when I parsed higher DPS than any of them. Dropped those scrubs immediately.

They probably did because they wanted to see if you had the gear to backup your attitude. :\Maybe that's because Bards were support classes in Rift?

You're right. And since we can already tell if someone has low dps, that must mean the parser can do something else. Like self improvement or the improvement of your static.
Yes, jerks will use it to put others down, but jerks will do that regardless. A knife can be used to stab someone or you can prepare food with it. A parser can be used to insult people or to improve your performance.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.
