In my experience, DPS figures cause nothing but problems amongst players, whether pick-ups or guildmates. It is a can of worms I would rather leave sealed. Imagine being called names just because a fight was failed and you did "only" 150 DPS versus someone else's 175 DPS. Or melee were doing less DPS than casters. Or a healer was spending time doing DPS and not healing, etc etc. These things are already apparent from just watching and being aware during an encounter. The only indicator that matters in an encounter is the health of the mobs (or boss), and the time that was taken. It is a party effort.

With unsupported third party tools anyone using these numbers to belittle players has a chance to get reported for such behavior. If S-E puts in an official DPS meter, the argument would be "if you didn't want me to use DPS numbers, why did you give me the tool?"
