Why not a dps tracker in UI?

    Hi all,

What are your thoughts on a dps meter in game instead of having it made by a 3rd party (full of bugs and not that accurate)?

Also, does anyone know why SE chose to not have one? It looks like they're afraid of people whining because class A does more dps than class B.

It think it adds to the game in a positive way. There of course will be people who will say "your dps is too low, we kick", but it happens now too. In some cases it's just how it is. I do not approve this kind of feedback, but at least it would show had there been a dps meter..

Thought it would fit in this section since it would be a UI feature.

yea i actually love this idea.... its absolutely ridiculous nowadays.... I have a ilvl82 bard, no big deal. I rolled a duty roullette on Haukke Manor on Tuesday. Got paired up with a 70ish tank, and a 70ish healer, and a fresh 50 summoner that was wearing full collisseum attire... we wiped 3 times on the first boss..... after the first wipe. the healer starts trying to direct me how to do my job..... "Robin, you HAVE to kill the skeletons when they pop up"..... im like "no sh&t sherlock".... after the second wipe the healer starts running his mouth about "our dps is too low.

The bard isnt cranking out enough dps, the smn is awful"..... thats when i lost it..... I basically responded about how i am insulted by the comments.... our summoner was god awful, i dont blame him, he was a fresh 50, and wasnt even wearing his AF1 gear yet.... but to be lumped together with the insults was appalling.... i tried to explain that i am rocking a xenith bow, i ate hq deviled eggs, and i have a mnk and drg leveled to 50 as well so i have all the cross abilities needed to perform my job. I am grouping the adds, and aoe'ing them with quick nock.... etc.... my dps is not the problem, its the fact that the smn is way too below and i am appalled by the joint insult.....

The healer then prompted a vote kick for AFK on the summoner.... we got a replacement and flew through the dungeon... at which time, i started to insult the healer nitpicking his curing mechanics..... only to give him a taste of his own medicine. I ended up with 2 player commendations after completion... and yea...

So i agree, a nice dps meter would be cool.... that way i do not have to explain every time and lose my cool, over the fact that i am being called out over a non issue...it would save me alot of ps3 keypad typing

Third Party Add-ons are against the TOS, due to the fact SE does not want this game to become a Flame War of people nit picking everyone's dps.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

People still nitpick. Now people will always "over-itemlevel" party finder: Titan EX with i85, Garuda Ex i82 etc.. Why? Because it's a 'guarantee' people will do higher dps/know the fight.

With more insight to what is actually happening to dps, people would be more informed.

In my experience, DPS figures cause nothing but problems amongst players, whether pick-ups or guildmates. It is a can of worms I would rather leave sealed. Imagine being called names just because a fight was failed and you did "only" 150 DPS versus someone else's 175 DPS. Or melee were doing less DPS than casters. Or a healer was spending time doing DPS and not healing, etc etc. These things are already apparent from just watching and being aware during an encounter. The only indicator that matters in an encounter is the health of the mobs (or boss), and the time that was taken. It is a party effort.

With unsupported third party tools anyone using these numbers to belittle players has a chance to get reported for such behavior. If S-E puts in an official DPS meter, the argument would be "if you didn't want me to use DPS numbers, why did you give me the tool?"
